More than two months have passed since the near blockbuster trade that would have sent Pro Bowl defender Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens. Yet the idea still hasn’t fully cooled.

The New England Patriots were among the teams mentioned in Crosby trade rumors over the winter, and they remain in the market for an edge rusher. ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote Thursday that Crosby could still be moved this fall, naming New England as a potential fit for the 28-year-old.

“I wouldn’t expect Crosby trade talk to heat up again until he gets on a field and shows he’s healthy. And from everything I’ve been told, that could be in August or later,” Graziano said. “Crosby might stick with the Raiders all year at this point. but if he’s going to get traded at all. we’re probably looking at something in-season ahead of the deadline.”.

That framing matters: it’s not just about whether Crosby moves, but when the NFL marketplace would even start taking it seriously again. Graziano pointed to the kind of teams that could make a move once the season is underway.

“If a team such as the Cowboys, Bills, Bears or Patriots finds itself in contention and in need of an impact pass rusher, things could get interesting here again,” he said.

Last season, Crosby gave teams plenty to dream on—while also setting up why this chatter keeps coming back. He registered a career-best 28 tackles for loss in 15 games, adding 20 quarterback hits and 10.0 sacks.

The timing is the suspense, not the talent. Graziano’s point is simple: until Crosby looks healthy on the field, the trade conversation won’t pick up steam. And once he does, New England’s edge-rusher needs—and the teams he named—could put the Patriots back in the mix before the deadline.

Crosby’s status with the Raiders may still be unchanged for now, but the conditions for a trade resurface are already clear. If a contender believes it needs an impact pass rusher, and if Crosby shows he’s ready, New England’s name could start showing up again when it counts.
