Patriots land A.J. Brown from Eagles for picks

Patriots acquire – New England has acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, adding a proven star after Brown’s long-running trade frustrations with Philadelphia’s offence.

When the Patriots announced the trade on Monday, it wasn’t just another roster move—it was a statement. New England is getting wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Brown’s name had been hovering in trade rumours for quite some time, fueled by his displeasure with the Eagles’ offence during the season. The 28-year-old now leaves a team that once built around his talent, but enters an offence he’s clearly chasing to match what he’s produced in the league.

Brown arrives with the kind of résumé that rarely comes cheaply. Since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2019, he has been one of its top wideouts. Over seven seasons. he has broken the 1. 000-yard receiving barrier just once — but that still includes three-time Second-Team All-Pro and three Pro Bowl selections.

The Eagles’ 2025 season was tougher in the stat line for Brown and mixed overall in the passing game. He logged a low of 1,003 yards with seven touchdowns in 2025. Philadelphia finished 23rd in the NFL with 3,303 passing yards, yet the team did make a step with its passing offence.

Now the fit changes sharply. The Patriots’ offence finished fourth in total passing yards, producing 4,258 yards through the air, and ranked sixth in receiving touchdowns with 31. They were paced by Stefon Diggs, who finished with 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

There’s also a football relationship beneath the transaction. New England had been one of Brown’s preferred destinations when rumours began to swirl about his impending departure from Philadelphia. Brown played for current Patriots coach Mike Vrabel while the two were with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 to 2021. and they have “maintained a connection beyond football.”.

The numbers tell a second story, one of career production that follows Brown regardless of surrounding variables. Drafted by Tennessee in the second round of the 2019 draft. the former Ole Miss standout has 524 receptions for 8. 029 yards and 56 touchdowns in 105 regular-season games. In the postseason, he has added 44 receptions for 623 yards and five touchdowns across 13 games.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, isn’t letting go of a minor piece. Brown helped the Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX in 2025, a reminder that the star talent leaving Gillette is matched by the pressure it took to build those moments in the first place.

The sequence is simple: Philadelphia trades away a premier receiver. New England pays with future picks. and Brown walks into an offence that already put up big aerial totals. What remains is the question every team dreads after a star acquisition—whether the new connection brings the kind of target volume and production Brown has earned wherever he’s played.

  1. I don’t get it, 2028 first round pick?? Like that’s a whole lifetime away lol. Also the article says Eagles passing was bad but then it’s “proven star” so which is it?

  2. Wait A.J. Brown goes to the Patriots and it’s because of “offence frustrations”… but wasn’t the Patriots offence already doing good? Fourth in passing yards like they didn’t need him. Seems like they just wanted headlines and to copy the Eagles.

  3. This is gonna be messy. Giving up a 2027 fifth too? That’s like nothing but then the first is huge, and I feel like it might backfire if their QB still can’t get it to him. Also the part about him only hitting 1,000 yards once… idk that sounds kinda low for the price. I swear these teams just trade names and hope it fixes the whole offense.
