Patriots’ Drake Maye, A.J. Brown absolutely cooked Eagles’ vaunted defense in joint practice

New England Patriots stars Drake Maye and A.J. Brown dominated the Philadelphia Eagles in join practice on Wednesday.

The New England Patriots are in a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles as the two teams prepare for a preseason matchup on Saturday, August 22. A.J. Brown is facing off against his former team in the joint practice, and it appears he and new teammate Drake Maye are torching the Philly defense.

In a lengthy post on X, Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP claimed that the Eagles’ secondary had a difficult time slowing down the Patriots’ passing game. Especially whenever Maye threw the ball to Brown. Although it was just a practice session, Shorr-Parks couldn’t help but realize just how dominant New England’s passing attack was on Wednesday.

“It was a bit shocking how well the Patriots passed the ball against the Eagles,” Shorr-Parks said. “A.J. Brown had 6 catches, including three over 20 yards. One was a down-the-sideline completion for probably 30+ yards… Overall, Drake Maye was 21/25, a sign of just how much success he had vs the Eagles’ defense.”

Considering it was against his former team, the eight-year veteran wide receiver is probably over the moon with his performance in the joint practice. He appears to be making an immediate impact on the offense, giving Maye a much more reliable wide receiver room for the upcoming campaign.

A.J. Brown will enter the 2026-27 season with seven years of experience under his belt. In 105 career games (97 starts), the three-time Pro Bowler has accumulated 524 receptions, 8,209 receiving yards, and 56 touchdowns. He’s managed to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in four consecutive seasons with the Eagles.

As for Drake Maye, the 23-year-old quarterback aims to find even more success with a better group of pass catchers around him. He finished last season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 touchdowns while completing a league high 72.0% of his pass attempts.
