Patrick Queen says Steelers contract talks stalled

Patrick Queen says he and the Steelers have talked about a new contract, but “no movement either way” so far as he enters the final year of his deal with a $17.2 million cap hit.

Patrick Queen didn’t sound alarmed. He sounded tired of the noise.

The Steelers linebacker said he and the team have discussed his contract. but so far it’s stayed in the realm of conversation—“obviously. no movement either way. ” Queen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He pointed to the offseason chatter about his future. saying he’s seen speculation that he could be traded or released.

“I saw the whole charade that went on all this offseason, but I mean it’s talks,” Queen said. “So, at the end of the day, [the Steelers] have business to handle. I’ve got business handled at home. and my business is to go out there and play the best football I can and put myself in a good position and put our team in a good position so that we both get successful.”.

Queen is entering the final year of his contract. This season carries a $17.2 million salary cap hit for the linebacker. The trade math matters if the Steelers choose to move on after June 1: if he were traded after that date. the team would save $13.3 million in cap space. Even with those numbers on the table. Queen said he doesn’t give much weight to the rumors about what might happen next.

“Some of it was true, but some of it was extended truth, just people rambling and stuff,” Queen said. “That’s what you can have with social media nowadays. You know, everybody wants the first say whatever happens — and wants to hope to be right. [There were] very [few] facts out there.”

For Queen, the focus is straightforward. He said he’s comfortable with either outcome—playing out his current contract or reaching a new deal.

“I’ve got a good amount of money coming in this year,” Queen said. “So at the end of the day, I couldn’t care less. If they do want to extend, cool. If not, cool. At the end of the day, it’s as a business.”

  1. “No movement either way” sounds like they’re stalling on purpose. But then he says he’s not alarmed so idk. Social media turning into a whole charade like he said.

  2. They should trade him before June 1 to save the cap? Unless I’m mixing it up. Like the article says $13.3 million and I’m just thinking that’s free money they’re wasting if they don’t do it. Also $17.2 million is a lot, so why are they acting calm?

  3. I don’t get why everyone’s so loud when it’s literally football. Like “extended truth”?? half the stuff on there is probably made up. If he’s “comfortable with either outcome” then good for him, but Steelers always do shady contract stuff anyway. June 1 thing sounds like the real decision day, not whatever people are tweeting right now.
