Orbit College beat Magesi FC 2-1 at Seshego Stadium, climbing out of the relegation-danger places in the Betway Premiership.
Orbit College’s 2-1 win over Magesi FC had the kind of edge that can swing a league campaign, and it lifted the hosts out of the red zone.
Playing at Seshego Stadium on Tuesday evening, Orbit entered the match under pressure after being positioned at the foot of the standings. Magesi FC had their own urgency, but Orbit made the early moments count with two first-half breakthroughs that ultimately proved decisive.
By the time Lucky Malatsi and Gomolemo Khoto found the net, Misryoum reports the match had already taken a clear direction: Orbit were heading to the dressing room with a lead and a path upward on the log.. That tally also marked the continuation of a strong run that ended a recent stretch of results.
The turning point came after a weather delay interrupted the game shortly after kick-off. Once play restarted, the tempo changed and Orbit made sure they did not waste the momentum.
Orbit took the lead in the 22nd minute through Malatsi, who converted after receiving Kobamelo Setlhodi’s cross from the right. Magesi almost replied immediately, but a volley from Mcedi Vandala was just wide.
Gomolemo Khoto then doubled Orbit’s advantage in the 37th minute, firing a left-footed effort into the corner after collecting the ball near the edge of the penalty area.. Just before halftime, Motsie Matima pulled one back with a header at the near post, bringing the score to 2-1 and keeping the contest alive.
In the second half, Orbit made multiple changes to add fresh legs, and they were tested when Sifiso Luthuli struck the post in the 49th minute after a flick-on. From there, Orbit tightened up defensively, absorbing possession while limiting Magesi to longer-range attempts.
Still, the final quarter brought renewed pressure from Magesi, though clear chances were scarce. Chirambadare’s curling attempt in the 85th minute clipped the crossbar, and the scoreline held as Orbit closed out the game 2-1.
Meanwhile, the impact of the result could be felt beyond Tuesday’s full-time whistle, with league positions still sensitive to what happens in the games scheduled later in the week. For Orbit, getting out of the red zone matters because it gives them room to plan the next stretch with less urgency.
Orbit will return to Premiership action on Saturday, 9 May, when they host AmaZulu FC, while Magesi face Orlando Pirates. Misryoum notes that the quick turnaround will be important for both sides as they look to keep their momentum moving forward.
