Oppo tests 100MP square selfie camera for Find X10

Oppo 100MP – Oppo is reportedly testing a 100MP square-format front camera sensor for its purported Find X10 series. If it reaches a commercial release, the Find X10 would become the first Android smartphone to ship with a 1:1 square selfie sensor, aiming to change selfie
A selfie camera that actually feels like a real upgrade is rare these days. For years, Android phones have kept their front cameras largely in the same lane—rectangular sensors, predictable framing, and not much that changes how a photo feels in your hand.
That could shift soon. A Chinese tipster. Digital Chat Station (via Weibo). claims Oppo is testing a 100MP square-format front camera sensor for its purported Find X10 series. If it makes it into a commercial release. the Find X10 would be the first Android smartphone to ship with a 1:1 square selfie sensor.
The idea is simple, but the impact is not. Until now, Android phones have typically used rectangular sensors optimized for vertical framing and portrait orientation. A 1:1 square sensor changes the geometry completely. It can capture a wider field of view in all directions. letting people fit into the same frame without everyone needing to shuffle backward for group shots.
That matters for more than just a good group selfie. With a square sensor. the same image can also be cropped for different outputs—like a portrait Instagram post or a landscape YouTube thumbnail—without forcing you to reframe from scratch. For live streaming. creator content. and anyone who flips between orientations during shooting. the square layout reads less like a technical novelty and more like a day-to-day quality-of-life improvement.
Apple already uses something square-shaped for selfies, which is where the conversation gets personal. Apple’s iPhone 17 uses a similar square sensor for its Center Stage camera, but with an 18MP sensor. The piece of context that stands out here is lived experience: the iPhone 17’s selfie tricks have been used for over nine months. and the results are described as “phenomenal.” Within a second. the camera can go from accommodating a group of four to a group of 10 to 12 people in the same selfie. with a horizontal wide-angle selfie setting called out as the favorite. The only sticking point. at least in that account. is occasional wish for higher resolution—especially when the experience needs more flexibility after the fact.
That’s the gap the upcoming Oppo flagship is expected to address. The 100MP selfie shooter could offer more flexibility for digital cropping and zoom. The sensor itself is also reportedly a custom Samsung-made chip measuring around 1/2.5 inches.
No launch date has been confirmed for the Find X10, but the handset should “break cover” later in the year—meaning the real test isn’t whether the sensor sounds interesting. It’s whether Oppo turns the square idea into something that makes front-camera quality feel newly worth caring about again.

Square selfie camera?? lol just sell the phone.
I don’t get it… isn’t a selfie camera basically the same no matter what? Like 100MP sounds cool but I feel like it’ll still look kinda smudgy in low light.
Apple does the square thing so Oppo is just copying. Also 1:1 square sensor sounds like it would make everyone’s face look weirdly stretched or cut off unless the app fixes it.
If this is true, great for group selfies I guess? But I’m skeptical because usually these “100MP” front cams end up being marketing and the software does all the work. Also who even crops to make a YouTube thumbnail from a front camera… seems like a creator thing. Idk. I just want my selfies to stop turning my skin orange.
