Olivia Wilde Says Jason Sudeikis Moment Ended Engagement

Olivia Wilde looked back on the exact second she knew her engagement to Jason Sudeikis was over—during her 2020 birthday drive home—sharing that he told her, “I don’t know you.” She credits the heartbreak with inspiring her film The Invite and says co-parentin
Olivia Wilde can pinpoint the moment with the kind of precision you don’t forget.
On the Wednesday episode of Call Her Daddy, Wilde spoke with Alex Cooper while promoting her new movie, The Invite. As she described the film’s core idea—how relationships don’t always end overnight—she also shared the personal truth that helped shape it. For her, the “last straw” wasn’t a slow fade. It was a single exchange during her birthday in 2020.
Wilde and Jason Sudeikis originally got together in 2011. After nearly a decade together, they ended their engagement in 2020, going their separate ways. They also have two children, Daisy and Otis.
But during her conversation on Call Her Daddy, Wilde didn’t dwell on the timeline. She went straight to the drive home. She said she and Sudeikis had been having “a rough time” and that they’d been on a “real bumpy. bumpy ride.” Then. as they were driving home from her birthday party—hosted by friends—she remembered asking. “Did you get me a birthday present?”.
Wilde said Sudeikis responded, “What would I get you, Olivia? I don’t know you.”
She told Cooper the moment landed because the answer wasn’t wrong. “We didn’t know each other anymore,” she said.
Wilde also said the breakup wasn’t just sad—it was clarifying. She explained that the changes “didn’t happen overnight. ” but she could point to the exact second she knew her engagement would never result in marriage. “And that was a point, that was when we realized it was over,” she said. “We’re gonna end this.”.
In the same discussion. Wilde made clear that the heartbreak didn’t only cut deep—it helped her make the film. The Invite. she said. was inspired in part by that shift: when partners stop “engaging in the knowing of each other. ” stop sharing “curiosity. ” and reach a place where they feel like “strangers.”.
She described it as “f**king tough,” and said it ultimately brought them to a conclusion: the relationship was done.
These days, Wilde says things look different at home. She and Sudeikis are co-parenting their kids Daisy and Otis, and she said they’ve found a rhythm that works. “You can create a dynamic that allows that kid to have the maximum amount of love,” she said. “I mean, we are great f**king co-parents.”
Wilde added that the children are “consistently getting the best of us,” something she said wasn’t possible when Wilde and Sudeikis were together. “We work really well as separated co-parents,” she said.
Wilde’s interview, including her remarks about that birthday drive and what followed, was shared during the Call Her Daddy episode on Wednesday at the 1:25:51 mark.

That sounds brutal like damn. I can’t even imagine someone saying “I don’t know you.”
So he just roasted her on the way home and that means it’s over?? I feel like there had to be way more than one line, unless she needed an excuse to leave.
Wait I thought they were engaged like forever? Like the whole time I’m pretty sure they were fine on Instagram and then suddenly Call Her Daddy and it’s “over.” People are acting like one birthday drive comment magically ends everything, but okay.
This is why I don’t do “bumpy rides” lol. Also The Invite sounds like a breakup diary but now it’s connected to Jason saying he doesn’t know you? Seems kinda convenient timing for a movie promo, just saying.
