Oh, Mary! Broadway Debut for Meg Stalter Starts July 6

Meg Stalter is set to join Oh, Mary! on Broadway July 6, taking over from Maya Rudolph as the production extends through September.

A fresh kind of Broadway energy is headed to the Lyceum: Meg Stalter is joining Oh, Mary! and will make her Broadway debut in the role of Mary Todd Lincoln.

The Hacks star and online comedian will begin performances on July 6 for a 10-week limited engagement. stepping in after Maya Rudolph’s final bow on July 5.. The casting news was shared on social media. and the production says additional casting for Stalter’s run—continuing through September 12—will be announced.

In a statement, Stalter framed the role as both a creative thrill and a personal fit.. She said that when she first met Cole Escola. he described feeling too old to be as excited as he was about a new friend. and that those emotions mirrored what she felt when she met Mary Todd Lincoln for the first time.. Stalter also described recognizing herself in the way she sees Mary. noting she doesn’t drink. yet suggesting the spirit of Escola’s work is what makes the character feel vivid and “seen.” She added that she has loved Escola’s “brain. heart. and work” since experiencing it and called the opportunity to join the best play she says has ever been written a “prize of a lifetime.” She also addressed Escola directly. referencing their highly public breakup in 2018 and thanking him for making her dream come true.

Rudolph remains at the center of the production until her last performance. with the title role already anchored by a roster of returning performers.. Bianca Leigh returns as Mary’s Chaperone. Phillip James Brannon plays Mary’s Husband. and Cheyenne Jackson portrays Mary’s Teacher.. Tony Macht continues as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant. while understudies Hannah Solow. Martin Landry. and Julian Manjerico are in place as part of the company.

The show itself is built around the historical period leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. with comedy at the wheel.. Escola’s take. as described in press materials. places Mary Todd Lincoln in a wildly satirical frame—portraying her as a madcap. cabaret-obsessed alcoholic in the weeks before the assassination.

Oh, Mary!. has been traveling a path that began beyond Broadway.. The production premiered at Off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024, where its run was extended three times.. Later that year. it transferred to Broadway at the Lyceum. where it has been drawing major attention and has been breaking box-office records.. The production has also been noted as the first show in the theatre’s 121-year history to gross more than $1. 000. 000 in a single week.

The momentum has continued into awards season as well. The show won two Tony Awards in 2025—one for Lead Actor in a Play for Escola and another for Director of a Play for Sam Pinkleton.

Meanwhile, the creative team behind Oh, Mary!. rounds out a wide range of disciplines that shape the look and sound of the production.. Scenic designer dots. costume designer Holly Pierson. and lighting designer Cha See are credited among the team. alongside composer and co-sound designer Daniel Kluger and co-sound designer Drew Levy.. Wig designer Leah J.. Loukas and music arranger David Dabbon are also listed as part of the production’s credited work. with casting by Henry Russell Bergstein.

For the live stage management side, the production lists John C. Moore as production stage manager and Lilian McGrail as assistant stage manager. Tickets are currently on sale through January 3, 2027.

And as Stalter prepares to take the stage as Mary Todd Lincoln. the production’s timing becomes part of the story..
