Off Campus Cast Digs Into Finale Twist, Season 2

Prime Video’s Off Campus has arrived for Season 1, built around Briar University hockey players and loaded with shirtless moments, character-driven detours, and a finale twist that left viewers bracing for what comes next—especially for Dean, Allie, Hunter, Lo

Prime Video’s Off Campus is already turning into the kind of binge-watch that pulls viewers straight into Briar University’s world—where hockey is king, four star players are the center of campus heat, and Season 1 ends with a twist that the cast clearly can’t stop teasing.

Set at the fictional Briar University and adapted from Elle Kennedy’s novel series. Off Campus follows the school’s top hockey players: Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli). John Logan (Antonio Cipriano). Dean Di Lauretis (Stephen Kalyn). and John Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks).. The show leans into their popularity as the hottest guys on campus. and the cast’s behind-the-scenes conversation shows just how much work sits behind the easy-on-the-eyes moments.

When the trio sat down to discuss what it takes to play hockey on camera. Stephen Kalyn described a fast routine that started long before the first game-day scenes.. He said he “grew up in Toronto. Canada” and played hockey “my whole life since I was six years old. ” while also noting the team did “a two-week boot camp before” and “another one recently. ” with the cast expecting more training ahead.. Antonio Cipriano and Jalen Thomas Brooks were quick to match that timeline with their own blunt take: “They were horrible at first. but now they’re pretty good. ” Kalyn said. before Brooks and Cipriano joined in—Brooks calling them “horrible. ” and Cipriano adding. “Terrible.”

That same mix of intensity and humor carried into the shirtless-scenes prep.. Kalyn said the makeup team did “a great job giving us all a six-pack. ” and Brooks admitted he didn’t fully understand the process until he saw it unfold on set: “I didn’t know about the shading and coloring.” Brooks explained that on filming days “you have all these markings on you. ” and then on camera you see what changes have been applied—“and you’re like. ‘Whoa!. I look like that?’” He finished by laughing that “Nah.”

The season’s storytelling also builds toward the kind of late-game pivot viewers remember.. Kalyn described how Dean’s storyline with Allie (Mika Abdalla) reshapes the season when the show pulls away from Garrett and Hannah—saying his character’s thread is “a B-plotline. ” but one that still gets a full breakaway episode.. He specifically pointed to the episode title as “The Breakaway. ” crediting it as “Genius!” after it shifts to Dean and Allie.

The conversation quickly turned to the major twist hanging over the finale and how it changes Dean’s orbit—especially once Hunter (Charlie Evans) enters the mix.. Kalyn said it gives the story a “nice little breather for a second to kind of jump into something different. ” then admitted that some details are still locked behind scripts: he said there was “something to begin with. something to do with Dean’s sister. ” but that he doesn’t know “exactly what we’re going to be going with later on. ” adding they’re “still waiting on some scripts.” He also mentioned the scripts are ready from Louisa [Levy]. then joked that he’d be doing reading “after this. I guess.”

Meanwhile, the romance temperature stays high even beyond Dean’s storyline.. Cipriano discussed Logan’s unrequited crush dynamic—tying it back to the books—saying in the season you can see “glimmers of” that pressure.. He described Logan’s feelings as something that “he yearns quite a bit” for. and he called it “a big part of his arc. ” including “getting over that” as a struggle within his “love story later on.” Cipriano also set up what’s coming next in terms of emotional direction: “coming to terms with. ‘Okay. this is not okay. ’” and “What do you actually want?” before pushing toward “find some real love here.”

For Tucker. Brooks had a different kind of excitement—less about where the finale lands. and more about where the character gets to go.. He said he wants to explore “the time that Tucker has to find himself. ” including discovering “what he likes” and his “position within the hockey team. ” while also leaning into how he grows “growing up as a young man and just becoming the guy that is in his book.” Brooks described it as a shift toward Tucker’s “fun side. ” moving into becoming “a family man. and living that college life. ” and he tied that growth to “his book” and a “switch-up” that he called “a very lovely thing.”

Even with all the romance and character turns, the cast didn’t forget the sheer workload behind the hockey scenes.. When asked what was harder—learning hockey and being on the ice versus dealing with the intensity of The Pitt—Brooks didn’t declare a clear winner.. He said hockey is “very physically demanding. ” and The Pitt is “very mentally medical dialogue. the chaos. the anxiety of it all. and long days. a bunch of people on set.” Still. he landed on a specific contrast: “I wouldn’t say one was harder than the other. ” adding that “These guys made hockey very. very easy. ” it became “more of a fun thing. ” and that “on the day. I was more exhausted on this show physically than I was doing The Pitt.”

He summed up the physical divide with a grin: it’s “a cool separation of the two,” where it’s “I go here to do medical. I go here to play hockey with the boys — and take my shirt off.”

The cast’s training and performance prep also links back to what viewers see on screen: Kalyn described boot camp for the ice, then talked about the makeup team making “a six-pack,” while Brooks explained how the markings and “shading and coloring” translate when the camera is rolling.

As for the vibe-setting, the cast even brought the soundtrack side of character work into the conversation.. Kalyn said he had “a whole playlist of songs that really just gave me that confidence as soon as I walked out of the makeup chair. ” and called “Girls. Girls. Girls” by Motley Crue the top track—framing it as “an anthem for him.” Brooks asked what Cipriano’s song was. and Cipriano answered that “Surrender” by Cheap Trick has been getting him prepped for Season 2: he said he listens to it “in the auto shop while I’m working. ” and that it feels like “Logan’s…” before the moment cut off in the exchange.

The group also tossed out additional picks: Kalyn said “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” Def Leppard, “Pour some sugar on me!” Brooks responded that his choice is “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy.”

Off Campus. meanwhile. has a clear next step locked in for fans—Season 1 released on Prime Video on May 13. 2026. with Silver Tree directing.. Until then. the cast’s collective message is simple: the twist at the end of Season 1 doesn’t just change a relationship—it changes which character the story circles around next. from Dean and Allie’s “The Breakaway” to Logan’s unrequited push toward “real love. ” and Tucker’s switch into the version of him the books promise.

  1. I didn’t even realize it’s based on a novel series until after I already binged it. The whole “shirtless hockey guys” thing is basically bait but honestly it worked. Also the finale twist??? like why would they do that

  2. Wait is Briar University real? My cousin swears her school had the same arena vibes. If it’s not real then how is “Dean” a real person name-wise, unless the actor just is Dean? I’m confused but the trailer was good

  3. The cast teasing the twist had me stressing like it’s a crime drama or something. I figured it would be more about the romance and then suddenly it’s like “brace for what comes next”?? Also hockey practice on camera must be brutal, but the show makes it look effortless. Stephen Kalyn talking about the routine before game day… sounds like they’re working harder than the plot
