Prime Video’s Off Campus didn’t just translate a hockey romance from the page to the screen—it also reshaped it, beat by beat. And now the author herself has weighed in.
Elle Kennedy. the 44-year-old writer behind the novel “The Deal. ” which the series adapts from. answered fan questions in a TikTok Q&A over the weekend. “The Deal” is the first in the five-book hockey romance series that Off Campus is based on. and Kennedy used the moment to talk about the differences the show made—and which one landed closest to her heart.
When asked what changes she loved most, Kennedy didn’t hesitate. “I love that Justin is a musician now, I think it makes a lot of sense.”
The author then zoomed in on the moments she felt were especially faithful to the vibe she wanted. She “loved loved loved Allie and Dean’s JLo/maverick dance and them having this wild tension even before their hookup.” Kennedy added that in the book, the hookup happens right off the bat.
Her comments come as fans keep an eye on what’s next for the show. There’s continued curiosity around whether Josh Heuston will be back as Justin in season two, along with the fates of the rest of the cast.
