Ocean Edge Resort makes Cape Cod Bay feel familiar

A long-time “Nantucket Sound only” visitor arrives at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club on Cape Cod Bay expecting the “wrong side” and ends up finding a full-service family getaway—historic rooms, beach access, low-tide adventures, and a growing calendar of summer

When she stepped onto Cape Cod Bay—after years of booking the Nantucket Sound side—Beth Luberecki realized the thing she’d been clinging to wasn’t geography. It was routine.

She grew up in southeastern Massachusetts with a summer ritual: every family vacation “down the Cape” meant the same side. the same towns. and the same kind of familiarity. Her childhood trips were anchored in Mid or Lower Cape spots like South Yarmouth, West Dennis, and Harwich Port. Even after she had kids of her own, she kept the loyalty alive through big multigenerational trips.

So when she recently headed to Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club in Brewster. Massachusetts—situated on Cape Cod Bay—she wondered what her stay would feel like on what her family considered the “wrong side.” The question followed her through check-in and. by the time she was settling into dinner and turning down the lights in her room. it started to loosen.

Across 429 acres. Ocean Edge Resort spreads out in a way that makes “side of the Cape” feel less like a dividing line and more like a preference. The centerpiece is the circa-1912 Nickerson Mansion. a property that was originally built as a summer home and later served as a retreat house and seminary for the Missionaries of La Salette. The resort opened as a resort in 1986.

The Victorian-style building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Guests who stay on the Cape Cod Bay-facing side of the property—known collectively as The Mansion—choose between The Mansion Wing guest rooms and the Bay Pines villas. The Mansion side is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Historic Hotels of America.

Luberecki stayed in a Signature King guest room in the East Mansion Wing, decorated in beachy neutrals. Her room included an ultra-comfy bed. a large sitting area. a vintage-style bathroom with penny tiles. beadboard. and a pedestal sink. plus a dressing space with another sink. From her balcony, she could glimpse the bay over lushly landscaped grounds. The resort also offers double queen guest rooms in this section.

After dinner, what stuck with her wasn’t just the room—it was the ritual. Turndown service dimmed the lights, slippers were waiting beside the bed, and a video of the resort’s beach area played on the TV with the soothing sound of waves washing up on shore.

The Bay Pines villas are built for more space and longer stays. The two- and three-bedroom options can sleep up to eight guests. They include dining areas, kitchenettes with refrigerators and electric cook tops, fireplaces, walkout decks, and washers and dryers.

“ We’re in the business of memory making,” Brendan Carey, director of marketing for Ocean Edge, says. “It’s really a resort for everybody.”

Carey’s framing matters because Ocean Edge is designed to split its appeal without separating the experience. If guests are drawn to the beach and the restaurants on the Mansion side, staying there keeps things walkable. If someone’s main goal is golf, the Villages section across the road can be more appealing.

The Villages includes 220 one- to three-bedroom units, with some pet-friendly options. Those units feature living areas, kitchenettes, washer and dryer combinations, and patios or terraces. Beyond those 220 units, the rest of The Villages are privately owned and not part of Ocean Edge Resort. Guests staying in The Villages can also enjoy all amenities on The Mansion side.

The resort’s golf course is part of that blend: it’s an 18-hole course and Cape Cod’s only Nicklaus Design course. The property also includes pools, pickleball courts, and Blueberry Pond for kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding.

A separate development at Ocean Edge is already on the horizon. Summer 2026 will mark the first full season of the resort’s sister property, The Charm on Main. The one-time charm school—hence the name—has become an adults-only getaway just minutes from Ocean Edge Resort. The redesign was handled by interior design firm Madigan Schuler. with cofounder Megan Madigan saying her goal was to make it look like a home—“like somebody’s really cool home that was a little quirky and just very collected”—adding she doesn’t like things to feel contrived.

At The Charm on Main, guests get a heated pool, a rear deck, and an outdoor fire table, along with the comfort of a small luxury inn’s own ambiance and amenities. The property’s redesign mixes antiques with more contemporary wallpapers and fabrics.

As for the food, Ocean Edge leans hard into variety. On the Mansion side, the seasonal Ocean Terrace serves as the resort’s signature restaurant, with oysters and other fare served alfresco overlooking Cape Cod Bay.

The Roscommon Room acts like an indoor extension of Ocean Terrace, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A portrait of Mary Merrigan Corcoran—described as the matriarch of the family that currently owns the resort—hangs behind the bar. and the decor draws inspiration from her home of County Roscommon. Ireland. Whether guests dine in the Roscommon Room or on the Ocean Terrace. the lobster roll is presented as a reliable choice.

Bayzo’s Pub on the lower level of The Mansion delivers an English tavern vibe, family-friendly pub fare, and live music some nights during the summer season. Guests can exit through a back stairway to emerge through a hidden door into the main hall of the Nickerson Mansion.

During summer evenings, the Mansion’s Front Lawn becomes a gathering spot for both guests and locals. It offers lawn games, light bites cooked in a wood-fired oven, and live music on some nights. Down by the shoreline. the seasonal Beach Bar offers bay views and regionally inspired cocktails. with the Cape Cod Mojito highlighted.

On the Villages side. the seasonal Shark Bah serves frozen drinks. kid-friendly sandwiches. and soft-serve ice cream. paired with a dash of Boston accent humor. Even non-golfers are encouraged to catch a meal at Linx Tavern. where dining happens inside the clubhouse or outside overlooking the course. with particular attention paid to the mocktails.

For the beach, Ocean Edge’s pitch is simple: a 700-foot stretch of private beach for guests. Complimentary beach chairs and towels are provided, and during the summer there are beach fire set-ups with s’mores along with kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals.

The resort’s beach sits along the Brewster Flats, described as a 12,000-acre expanse along Cape Cod Bay. At low tide, the bay recedes and exposes more than a mile of rippled sand, tidal pools, and sandbars. The landscape is used for strolling. photography. wildlife watching. and unusual activities such as low-tide mini golf—an Ocean Edge invention where guests can putt for par right on the sand. Guests are told to pay attention to tide schedules each day so they don’t get caught by the water coming back.

Ocean Edge also includes complimentary oyster bed tours at low tide during the summer season. The guided walk across the Brewster Flats introduces participants to local oyster beds and oyster farming. with some of the oysters farmed right off the shoreline ending up on the menu at Ocean Edge. Guests can also book a private oyster bed tour. and Ocean Edge donates $25 of the fee to a local oyster bed foundation.

On the Front Lawn, croquet, cornhole, and other activities fill time between meals. The property has nine tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts. including introductory clinics and workshops for players of all skill levels. as well as private lessons and junior programming. Luberecki points to the resort’s pickleball pro, Todd Zukowski, as an especially patient instructor.

When the body needs recovery, The Beach House Spa is positioned as the reset button, with massage and body treatments. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Ocean Edge runs daily shuttle service around the property on a continuous loop. Guests can also rent Freedom Flyer cruiser bikes to ride around the property and to nearby shops like Brewster Book Store. The Brewster Store. and Pelo Mar boutique. For longer rides, there’s access to the more than 25-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail.

In summer 2026, Ocean Edge is also debuting a partnership with Boat Cape. Guests can book private, customizable boating experiences to explore the area from the water. Options include sunset cruises and day trips to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, with excursions tailored to each group.

The resort’s summer calendar expands again with wellness programming. From June 19 to September 7, 2026, it’s celebrating what it calls “Self-Love Summer,” offering complimentary classes such as yoga on the beach and Front Lawn and Pilates on the beach.

There are paid experiences too, including a floating sound bath in the resort’s Bayside indoor pool at $40 per guest. Luberecki describes trying it during her stay: she stretched out on an oversized float. slid on an eye mask. and drifted in the pool while listening to the sounds and feeling vibrations from singing bowls. She says the water amplifies the vibrations, helping stress and negative thoughts disappear.

The emotional arc of the visit is quiet but clear: her assumptions about the Cape Cod Bay side didn’t survive contact with the details—tide timing, backyard-style lawn evenings, easy shuttle loops, and the way the resort layers activities across two sides of the same property.

She doesn’t frame it as a grand reversal. She just reports that, at some point, what she thought she knew stopped feeling locked in place.

When she returned to the real world, the part that stayed with her wasn’t the “wrong side” label. It was the sense that the Cape can be bigger than a family rule. And for anyone trying to decide where to go this summer. Ocean Edge makes a persuasive case that Cape Cod isn’t divided—it’s varied. and it’s ready for you either way.
