Obama White House Instagram Account Hacked Sunday

The official Instagram account for the Obama White House was hacked on Sunday, with unauthorized posts and stories appearing before Meta secured the account and removed the content. The last legitimate post reportedly dates to Jan. 20, 2017.
On Sunday, the official Instagram account for the Obama White House started posting content that looked anything but routine. Instead of the usual updates, followers were confronted with strange claims and visuals—until it became clear the account had been compromised.
The hack hit the @obamawhitehouse Instagram page, the official account for the Obama White House. While Barack Obama has his own separate personal Instagram page, this incident involved the White House account itself.
Among the unauthorized posts were images that raised immediate eyebrows, including an A.I.-generated image captioned in a way that translated to, “The White House is under Shiites’ control.” The hacker also posted Instagram stories.
A representative for Meta confirmed the hack. The company said the account has since been secured and the unauthorized content has been scrubbed.
The account’s last legitimate post reportedly dates back to Jan. 20, 2017, the day Donald Trump had his first presidential inauguration. No information has been released about who was behind the hack.
In the narrow window before the content was removed, the breach wasn’t just technical—it turned an official channel into a stage for a single, targeted message, then disappeared once the platform stepped in.
