NYPD plans record deployment for Knicks’ June 18 parade

NYPD record – The New York Police Department will deploy more than 10,000 officers for the New York Knicks’ championship parade on Thursday, June 18, including K9 units and drones. The plan follows a landmark NBA title run that ended the franchise’s 53-year championship dro
By Wednesday night, New Yorkers were already lining up in their heads for what comes next. On Thursday. June 18. the Knicks’ long-awaited championship celebration will roll through Lower Manhattan and end at City Hall—along a route the NYPD says will be met with its largest staffing plan for any planned event.
The police department announced that it will deploy more than 10,000 officers for the New York Knicks’ championship parade. The announcement came on social media on Wednesday, June 17, and the department said the number of officers involved will be “the largest number assigned to any planned event.”
Security will include K9 units and drones. as the city prepares for crowds expected to gather at Manhattan’s “Canyon of Heroes.” The Knicks won their first championship in 53 years on Saturday. June 13. defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5. They finished the series 4-1 and won 15 of their last 16 games.
Jalen Brunson was named Finals MVP after scoring 45 points in the championship-winning game.
The stakes for public safety feel immediate in a city that remembers how celebrations can move faster than plans. After Game 5 was played in San Antonio, the Big Apple still had its own kind of victory night at home: NYPD arrested 63 people back home as the city celebrated the Knicks’ landmark win.
New York City has hosted major championship parades in past years, drawing massive crowds. The 1996 World Series celebration for the New York Yankees brought out an estimated 3.5 million fans, a benchmark that adds weight to the planning now underway for the Knicks.
Just days after the team ended a drought that lasted more than half a century. the parade route is already set. The NYC event page lists the time as 10 a.m. ET on Thursday. June 18. and says the parade will start near Bowling Green in Lower Manhattan and travel north to City Hall. The parade is free and open to the public.
In the week after the NBA Finals victory. attention now turns to whether the scale of the Knicks’ moment—an on-court run with a Finals MVP performance from Brunson—can be matched by the city’s ability to keep the celebration safe and orderly. Officials are preparing for a “potentially historic” parade for the Knicks.
NYPD Knicks championship parade Manhattan Canyon of Heroes K9 units drones Jalen Brunson Finals MVP public safety crowd control
10,000 cops for a parade is insane. What could possibly go wrong?
They said K9 and drones like it’s a war zone. Also didn’t NYPD arrest 63 already? So like… are they just gonna be targeting people again or what.
Wait is this the one where it ends at City Hall? I thought it was gonna go to MSG or something. And 53-year drought?? Man I’m lost, I just saw the headline and assumed it was a downtown thing.
If they’re lining people up at the Canyon of Heroes then of course they need “the largest number assigned to any planned event.” But I swear every time there’s a celebration they act surprised when crowds get rowdy. Also I saw Knicks won and my feed started talking about Brunson like he’s doing crowd control himself.
