No ProMotion for iPhone 18e, claims leaker

A leaker says the iPhone 18e will keep a 60Hz LTPO OLED display, meaning it won’t get ProMotion or Always On—unlike an iPhone 18 model tipped for 120Hz. The same post also lists screen specs for iPhone Air 2 and mentions testing molds for iPhone 19 Pro and iPh

For anyone hoping iPhone 18e might finally bring ProMotion smoothness and an Always On-style display. this new leak lands like a quiet disappointment. A leaker who has previously shared details about upcoming iPhones now claims to have screen specifications for multiple models—and the numbers don’t point to the premium display features people associate with Apple’s higher-end phones.

The claim comes from Digital Chat Station, who says iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e will use different screen technologies. In a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, the leaker lists:

iPhone 18 with a 6.3-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED
iPhone 18e with a 6.12-inch 60Hz LTPO OLED

The iPhone 18e part is the sticking point. The leak says its display runs at 60Hz, not 120Hz. That would mean no ProMotion—Apple’s feature that can ramp a display up to 120Hz. or down as low as 1Hz. depending on what’s on screen. Without that capability. the iPhone 18e would also miss the kind of “Always On” experience ProMotion helps enable. since the screen would not be tuned to operate efficiently while showing static information like a clock.

ProMotion matters because it changes how the phone feels in the everyday moments people notice: games and video tend to look and respond more smoothly when a display can shift to higher refresh rates. At the same time. ProMotion is designed to avoid wasting battery—by stepping down to slower speeds when the content doesn’t demand it. such as when reading a static page or keeping the time displayed.

The leak also touches a detail that’s been swirling around iPhone 18 models. There’s been a rumor that all iPhone 18 models would get a small dynamic island. and it wasn’t clear from that earlier claim whether iPhone 18e was included. With this new post. that “all models” idea still doesn’t look supported. and the leaker’s stance comes across as cautious.

Beyond the refresh-rate gap. the rest of the leaked screen specifications are described as broadly similar to what’s in current models. The only differences called out are the screen sizes: iPhone 18 is listed as 6.3 inches and iPhone 18e as 6.12 inches. which the leaker frames as matching the same kinds of rounding Apple already uses when it rounds sizes up or down.

Digital Chat Station also posted a separate iPhone Air 2 claim, saying it would have a 6.55-inch screen with 120Hz LTPO OLED.

And the post doesn’t stop at display talk. It also mentions iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone Ultra 2. with a different kind of claim: the leaker says Apple has reached the stage of testing molds of the chassis. There’s already a separate assertion from the same leaker that the iPhone Ultra 2 would keep the same screen size as the first model.

The iPhone Ultra, also described as iPhone Fold, is currently expected to be launched alongside iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September.

Still, none of these claims can be treated as confirmed until Apple actually launches the devices. The real test will come when the specifications are made official—and whether iPhone 18e stays locked at 60Hz, or surprises everyone at the finish line.
