The reunion buzz hit at the speed of a scrolling feed: Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley posted the same news to Instagram after casting details surfaced elsewhere—ending years of fan waiting with a brand-new Hulu thriller.
Nearly a decade after The Vampire Diaries wrapped. the former co-stars are set to return together in You Deserve to Know. a thriller that pairs them as characters living next door to each other while being pulled into the same case from opposite directions. Their characters, Dobrev as Gwen and Wesley as Scott, are expected to clash as the mystery unfolds.
The series is based on Aggie Blum Thompson’s 2025 novel, You Deserve to Know. The book reportedly earned strong reviews for its shocking twists and suburban mystery, and it helped draw multiple bidders before Hulu ultimately landed the adaptation.
Beyond starring. both actors will also executive produce the Hulu project—marking the first time Dobrev and Wesley have shared a screen in a major on-screen project since TVD ended. For longtime viewers. this timing lands right where the fandom’s nostalgia is strongest: Dobrev and Wesley’s characters first burned bright on The Vampire Diaries’ stage. and now they’re stepping back into that kind of tension—just with a suburban murder plot replacing the supernatural.
You Deserve to Know follows three suburban couples who are also best friends, living on the same cul-de-sac. When one of the husbands turns up murdered, the investigation exposes a web of secrets that tears the group apart. The premise puts neighborhood life and friendship on a collision course. with the reunion itself becoming part of the story’s emotional engine: neighbors forced into factions.
Brian Tanen developed the adaptation and executive produces alongside author Thompson. The project also lists Alex Cooper—host of Call Her Daddy—through her Unwell banner, and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment as executive producers. Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre are also executive producers.
The confirmation came in two posts the same day. Dobrev wrote. “I’ve been waiting to share this one. ” adding that she and Wesley “fell in love with this novel” and found shaping its adaptation “from both sides of the camera” exciting. Wesley shared his own message—“Secrets out!. Thrilled to be partnering again with Nina both on screen and as executive producers on You Deserve to Know.”.
Their latest collaboration carries extra weight because it follows years of public calls for a reunion. On The Vampire Diaries. Dobrev played Elena Gilbert and Wesley played Stefan Salvatore for the show’s first six seasons. from 2009 to 2015. Dobrev exited after that stretch, then returned for the 2017 series finale, while Wesley stayed on for all eight seasons. Their characters were also part of one of the era’s most talked-about love triangles alongside Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore.
For now, You Deserve to Know remains in early development. Hulu has not announced a premiere date or additional casting.
