New citizen investigators challenge Victor Marx’s claims

citizen investigators – A local gathering in Arvada celebrated citizen journalists and researchers who say they’re scrutinizing Victor Marx’s campaign claims—while lamenting what they call a lack of attention from Colorado’s mainstream media.

Colorado’s political folklore has always made room for swindlers and ambitious men—outlaws with legends attached, scams dressed up as momentum, and promises that didn’t survive daylight.

In that tradition, Peter Boyles describes what he calls a new effort to test Victor Marx’s story.

Boyles—writing in an opinion piece for the Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle—sets the scene with a dinner he put together at The Butchery in Arvada. “a gathering of all the young Turks” he says took on what he describes as the “petrified mainstream media of Denver.” He says sadness has befallen the state because investigators he describes as once active have “simply sat down awaiting retirement. ” leaving a gap that a newer group has tried to fill.

At the dinner, Boyles singled out several people he credits for challenging Marx. He names Darcy Schoening. a Republican activist and private researcher. who he says created “The Truth About Victor Marx.” He then points to Ashe Epp. describing her as a columnist for the newspaper. a cohost on Tuesday with Ryan Schuiling on KHOW. a podcaster. and someone he credits as helping drive alternative media.

Curt Kennedy is also named as a “coder and algorithm genius.” Boyles adds that Curt Kennedy’s wife, Cori Kennedy, did what he calls “incredible work” on background research into Victor Marx and on dissecting Boyles’ radio interview with Marx for what he describes as Marx’s falsehoods.

Not present that night. Boyles lists Kelly Dore. described as a former elected official and creator of the National Human Trafficking Survivor Coalition; Ross Kaminsky. Common Sense Institute Colorado and a radio host; as well as radio hosts Michael Brown and Mandy Connell. He also names Mark Cook. owner of Booster Technologies. and describes him as a researcher behind what he calls an enormous “smurfing” breakthrough that calls into question the origins of Marx’s campaign contributions.

Among those present, Boyles includes Corby Hall, writing that Hall “really discovered how accurate Victor Marx is with his money.”

Boyles also highlights Ryan Schuiling at KHOW radio—and Schuiling’s assistant. Trisha Calvarese—crediting them with “some of the most riveting radio” he says the city has heard in a while. He adds that Chuck Bonniwell and Julie Hayden. who own the newspaper. also have a podcast “that’s done lightening work” on questions around Marx.

Boyles’ central complaint is that mainstream attention has not matched the amount of scrutiny he believes voters need. He writes that he sees an “absolute lack of any mainstream media grabbing” onto the candidate. while mainstream coverage. in his view. stays focused on familiar talking points—things he lists as Colorado’s “dry” conditions. a “bad ski season. ” claims that the Broncos “might have a good year. ” the Avs “chasing the playoffs. ” and a sense that outlets have “backed away from the Rockies since they‘ve cooled off.”.

In Boyles’ telling, that leaves Victor Marx in the middle of a dispute that he believes should be harder to ignore.

Boyles does not mince words about what he thinks of Marx. He says he believes Marx is “a grifter,” and he links what he sees as manipulation to partisan politics, writing that “once again the Republican Party is being grifted,” but this time, he says, by “Dan Maes with Jesus.”

He argues that the investigators and detractors—many of whom. he says. were once supporters—are telling voters what they “really need to know and understand.” He finishes by writing that the state “owes them a debit of gratitude. ” adding that it would be “extraordinary” if the group could help identify additional information about other candidates.

Boyles closes with a reminder about how he believes serious people behave, invoking a quote he attributes to Margaret Thatcher: “People who do the right thing do not brag about it. … being powerful is like being a lady, if you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.”

The primary, he says, is “straight ahead,” and he stresses that voters’ choices carry weight in both Democrat and Republican primaries.

  1. So they’re “citizen investigators” basically grilling a campaign guy? I don’t even know who Victor Marx is but this sounds like one of those smear campaigns where everyone has a podcast. Also the Butchery dinner thing is kinda weird to me.

  2. Wait, is Victor Marx the one selling those “truth” websites? I swear I saw something about him on Facebook and it was like half conspiracy/half donations. If people are dissecting a radio interview then that’s not journalism, that’s courtroom vibes. And “coder and algorithm genius”?? Next they’ll be saying the algorithm made him lie.

  3. I’m confused—are these guys trying to prove Marx is lying or just doing their own media thing because Denver won’t help? They keep naming all these people like it’s a team roster, Darcy Schoening, Ashe Epp, Ryan Schuiling, KHOW, podcasts… that’s a lot. And why is a dinner at The Butchery the start of an investigation? Feels like the whole point is attention more than facts. If the mainstream media “sat down awaiting retirement” then who even verifies any of this?
