Naylor and Hedges erupt as Mariners lose late

Josh Naylor and Austin Hedges turned a tense pitch call into a personal shouting fight at home plate during Sunday’s Mariners-Guardians game, with Hedges screaming “No one likes you. Literally nobody likes you.” Seattle led 4-1 into the eighth before Cleveland

Sunday at home plate didn’t just get heated — it turned ugly fast.

In the Mariners vs Guardians clash. Seattle first baseman Josh Naylor and Cleveland catcher Austin Hedges exchanged furious words during an intense moment in the game. The argument sparked after Naylor appeared to visibly lean directly into a pitch. taking the ball straight off his elbow to force a base advancement. Hedges immediately pivoted toward the home plate umpire to protest the play. arguing that the Seattle first baseman had intentionally engineered the hit to cheat the system.

Naylor didn’t let the accusation hang in the air. He fired back at his former catcher. calling him a “f***ing loser” and insisting he couldn’t avoid the pitch. The temperature rose again when the television broadcast captured Hedges delivering a blunt. personal insult straight into Naylor’s face: “No one likes you. Literally nobody likes you.”.

What made the scene land even harder with fans was the history between them. Naylor and Hedges previously played together for both the San Diego Padres and the Guardians for multiple years before Naylor was eventually traded away to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024. There was also a sting of irony in the moment — Naylor had previously heavily praised Hedges’ infectious energy during their time together in Cleveland.

The feud played out as the background noise to a game that refused to settle. The Mariners scored more than three runs for the first time since June 12, and they carried a commanding 4-1 lead into the eighth inning. Then Cleveland flipped the script.

  1. So he leaned into it on purpose? I mean I don’t know but the ump should’ve stopped it right away. Also that “no one likes you” thing is wild, like bro get some manners.

  2. I swear I’ve seen Naylor do that “get hit” thing before. Like it’s always the same first baseman angle and then everyone pretends it’s an accident. Then Hedges calling him a loser?? Idk man, both sound childish.

  3. Isn’t this the same guy who was traded away or whatever? I saw something like Padres, Guardians, Diamondbacks… it’s confusing. But if he really leaned into the pitch then yeah that’s cheating-ish, and the ump should’ve noticed. Also why is the TV always zooming in on faces like that, makes it worse.
