Knicks keep Landry Shamet on $24 million, four years

Landry Shamet is staying in New York on a four-year, $24 million deal, keeping a key piece of the Knicks’ postseason rotation intact. The contract follows his late last offseason signing and a run that included clutch shooting, including a tying 3-pointer agai

Landry Shamet knew the Knicks needed his kind of steadiness—shooting that opens the floor and defense that slows down the other team. Now New York is putting a long look on that fit.

Shamet is returning to the New York Knicks on a four-year deal worth $24 million, a person with knowledge of the details said Monday. The agreement had not yet been announced, so the person spoke on condition of anonymity.

For the Knicks, Shamet’s value wasn’t abstract. He arrived after signing late last offseason and quickly became a trusted part of coach Mike Brown’s rotation. His role widened when the games tightened, and he showed up at the exact moment New York needed a spark.

In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against Cleveland. Shamet drilled the tying 3-pointer when the Knicks rallied from a 22-point deficit in the fourth quarter. That shot landed as the kind of turn-the-momentum moment that can change a series. He didn’t stop there: during the series, he went on to hit 11 of 12 shots from behind the arc.

His postseason production matched the eye test. Shamet shot 47.5% from 3-point range across the playoffs.

The deal also comes as the Knicks continue locking in pieces around their core bench. Shamet is the second key reserve New York has committed to keep following a multiyear deal for Jose Alvarado. On top of that, backup center Mitchell Robinson will also be a free agent.

Now the Knicks have another reason to feel continuity as they plan for what comes next—especially with the specific kind of outside shooting and defense Shamet has already proven he can deliver when the season is on the line.
