Mum sanctioned after running onto field to protect son

A mother sprinted onto the field with just 10 minutes left in an under-20s rugby match at Epping Boys High School on Saturday — and ended up sanctioned by her son’s club.
The incident happened during Eastwood vs Warringah when two players pushed each other and a scuffle broke out. Eastwood’s mother then ran onto the pitch, jumping in “to defend her son and pushed a player from Warringah,” according to 2GB.
The incident was caught on video, and the mother has been sanctioned by the Eastwood club. She has also been cautioned by the Sydney Rugby Union, the radio station reported.
Kylie, an eyewitness who spoke about what she saw, described the moment the game had moved further down the field. In her account to 2GB’s Ben Fordham, the mum “took her seat and refused to leave the sideline” after running on, and she refused to give her name to officials.
“Two players going at it in back play. The game had moved further down the field and the mum ran on saying, ‘Get off my son!’” Kylie told 2GB. “All the Warringah players on the sideline started laughing because it was right in front of their bench, so as she was walking off, they copped a spray.”
Kylie said it was “pretty embarrassing,” describing the mismatch between the moment and the age group involved. “They’re adults, it’s not the under-10s,” she said. “It’s embarrassing for him [the son] and her, and it’s embarrassing for the club.”
For all the fallout, the controversy didn’t erase the instinct that drove her onto the field in the first place. World Cup-winning Wallabies legend Nick Farr-Jones praised the mother’s motivation and backed her decision to step in.
“I love passionate and protective mothers, so good on her,” Farr-Jones said. “It would have been spontaneous, no doubt, there wouldn’t have been a lot of premeditation.”
He acknowledged she is “in a spot of bother,” but argued the punishment should fit the intent — saying she should receive something less severe than a heavier sanction. “Just give her a speeding fine, one demerit point,” Farr-Jones said.
“If my wife Angie jumped onto the field to protect one of my sons, good on her, have a go,” he added.
Eastwood has sanctioned the woman over the incident, after the under-20s match turned into a public moment that saw an adult sideline spill into play — and then into discipline.

I mean she was protecting her kid, so why is she getting sanctioned??
Under-20s but “adults” still acting wild… sounds like parents should stay off the field but also that player pushed first, so kinda on both sides. If she jumped in after someone got shoved then she’s just reacting, right?
Wait so Nick Farr-Jones said she should get like a speeding fine?? That’s hilarious but also I feel like they’re making it too light. She refused to give her name so that part seems sketchy, but I still don’t get how this is worse than the actual fight.
I saw something like this on TikTok earlier, they said she tackled the dude or whatever but the article says she just pushed. Either way, if you’re running onto a rugby field you’re gonna get sanctioned, that’s just how it is. But like… why were players laughing, isn’t that also embarrassing for the club? Sounds like everyone lost control and the mom just got the blame.
