Moutet swears seven times on-court at Queen’s

Moutet swears – Corentin Moutet’s post-match interview at Queen’s Club turned into a profanity-strewn moment, with the 27-year-old repeating “f***” seven times after being told to keep it clean. The Frenchman beat Giovanni Mpetchi Perricard after the match stretched over two

Corentin Moutet didn’t just win at Queen’s Club on Monday — he detonated a post-match interview.

The 27-year-old Frenchman, already known for courting chaos on court, was caught swearing persistently during his on-court BBC interview at the HSBC Championships. The moment landed on air despite the interviewer, Jenny Drummond, repeatedly pleading with him not to swear.

Moutet had beaten fellow Frenchman Giovanni Mpetchi Perricard in a match that ran over two days due to bad light. When Drummond asked him about what it felt like to get his first victory — referencing Perricard’s “bullet” serves — Moutet responded with a string of obscenities. He said: “That’s so frustrating. I had match point, on the second serve and then he hits me 142(mph) I was like f***…”.

Drummond immediately interrupted: “No f-bombs please.”

But Moutet pressed on. He replied: “F***, f***, f***.”

Drummond tried again, warning him: “No, no, no. Right, Corentin, I’m going to ask you one more question.”

Then, when asked about his grass-court struggles the previous week and how it felt to taste victory, Moutet again used the same profanity — this time replying: “F**. F*. F**” — live on the BBC.

The interview had to be cut short. Drummond said: “OK, Corentin, we need to improve that for the next round. Apologies, everyone. Corentin Moutet.”

Clare Balding, presenting Queen’s this week, followed with a second apology for viewers watching on BBC Two and iPlayer: “And just to repeat those apologies for everyone watching BBC Two and iPlayer.”

Annabel Croft, a pundit alongside Balding, condemned Moutet’s “appalling” behaviour.

The fallout didn’t stop with the broadcast. The HSBC Championships posted video of the interview on Instagram, and Moutet responded in the comments with: “I was just joking I hope you guys didn’t get offended. Thanks for the love.”

On the court, the Frenchman also signalled his mindset. During coverage, a camera screen referenced “chaos makes the muse,” a tattoo he has as well.

It was not the first time Moutet has disgraced himself at Queen’s. One year ago, in the same tournament, he appeared to call an umpire a “f****** t***” after a blazing row.

His history with officials stretches further back. In 2022, he said “f*** you” to an umpire, and he has twice almost come to blows with opponents. That same year. he and Adrian Andreev began pushing each other in an incident that contributed to him being stripped of funding by the French Tennis Federation.

And in March of last year, Moutet was involved in another tense exchange with Alexander Bublik, asking: “Do you want to fight?”

The question now hangs over Queen’s Club ahead of next year: after another profanity-laced interview on Monday, what — if anything — will he bring to the tournament next time?
