Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah partied with his Egypt team-mates on the streets of Dallas after his side’s historic World Cup win over Australia. Reds icon Salah scored a cool chipped ‘Panenka’ penalty in the shootout which followed the 1-1 draw, as the Pharaohs won a World Cup knockout match for the very first time. Egypt’s official Instagram account captured the players celebrating the win outside the stadium in Arlington, Texas, with Salah being held aloft by his team-mates and still clutching the player of the match award. A tense clash had gone to penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Egypt’s early lead given to them through Emam Ashour cancelled out in the second half by a Mohamed Hany own goal. Salah had been struggling with a hamstring injury in the build-up to the match, but
he shrugged that off to deliver a fine performance, including effortlessly scoring a chipped penalty past embarrassed Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan, who had been brought on at the end of extra-time specifically for the shootout. Having scored Egypt’s third penalty, Salah then watched 18-year-old Australia defender Lucas Herrington blaze over the bar before Hossam Abdelmaguid won it from the spot for Egypt. After the winning kick Salah instantly turned to console the distraught Australia players before joining in with his team-mates in celebration. On his
cheeky penalty, Salah told reporters: “If somebody was going to do it, it would be me. ”I am more experienced than others, and I wanted to give them confidence. I decided [in the] last minute, I don’t know if it’s my last World Cup or not, but I had to do it.” Reflecting on Egypt’s achievement, Salah added: “It’s history. “I told the guys before the game that this is the biggest stage you can play on, so enjoy it, and don’t let the pressure

The article says Liverpool legend Salah left Anfield this summer but also “historic win over Australia”?? Like that’s supposed to be connected. Also Panenka chipped penalty sounds like he just roofed it and called it a day. Hamstring injury didn’t stop him though so I guess he’s superhuman.
Messi next, wow. I swear every time Australia gets subbed for penalties the goalie is “brought on specifically” like that’s a normal thing, but it still feels unfair? Also “Panenka” makes it sound like it’s just a fancy trick not actual skill. Congrats to Egypt anyway, but penalties are always chaos.
