Cori Bush won’t be on her way back to Washington.
Incumbent Rep. Wesley Bell defeated Bush, a progressive and former U.S. representative, in the Democratic primary for the state’s first congressional district, which covers St. Louis and its northern suburbs. The bitter race touched several raw nerves in the party, from anger at the establishment to who is to blame for President Donald Trump’s return to power.
Here’s how Bush and Bell performed, along with Missouri’s Aug. 4 House primary results, according to data from the Associated Press and CNN.
Missouri House primary results
District 1
- Republican: Paul Berry (53.5% of votes) defeated Andrew Jones (46.5% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Incumbent Rep. Wesley Bell (59.2% of votes) defeated Cori Bush (36.9% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 2
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Ann Wagner (73.8% of votes) defeated Peter Pfeifer (8% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Fred Wellman (45.9% of votes) defeated Joan VonDras (43% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 3
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Bob Onder (66.3% of votes) defeated John Fraser (33.7% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Bethany Mann (69% of votes) defeated Tommy Holstein (17.7% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 4
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Mark Alford (77.7% of votes) defeated Heather Shelton (17.1% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Jordan Herrera (30.5% of votes) defeated Hartzell Gray (27.7% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 5
- Republican: Rick Brattin (45% of votes) defeated Taylor Burks (26.4% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Emanuel Cleaver II won the race uncontested.
District 6
- Republican: Chris Stigall (44% of votes) defeated Nathan Hall Willett (34.3% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Josh Smead (47.7% of votes) defeated Matt Levine (30.2% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 7
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Eric Burlison (73.8% of votes) defeated Grayson Hunt (13.2% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Missi Hesketh won the race uncontested.
District 8
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Jason T. Smith (86% of votes) defeated Gordon Heslop (14% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Chris Reichard (54% of votes) defeated Frank Barnitz (45.9% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
