Hoover, Alabama set the stage for the 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament starting Tuesday, May 19, and the second round delivered immediate shockwaves: Mississippi State opened up an early 10-run gap over Missouri and led 12-2 in the seventh inning before Missouri c
The SEC Baseball Tournament didn’t wait for a highlight to arrive—it came roaring in on schedule, on a brand-new day of second-round baseball in Hoover, Alabama.
Hoover Metropolitan Stadium is hosting the 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament. which kicks off Tuesday. May 19 and runs through a championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The early promise is big: Georgia enters as the No. 1 seed heading into this season’s bracket, chasing its first tournament championship in school history. Vanderbilt, the 2025 SEC Tournament winner, enters 2026 as a No. 12 seed.
By the time Mississippi State and Missouri met in the tournament’s second round, the message was already clear. Five hits and an error in the Bulldogs’ eight-run sixth inning turned Missouri’s game into a chase almost immediately. Mississippi State was already in control—leading Missouri 12-2 in the seventh inning.
Missouri did not completely fold. A Chris Patterson sacrifice fly scored Kaden Peer from third. cutting the Tigers’ deficit to one run in that sequence—one brief flare inside a larger collapse. Even so. Mississippi State’s advantage had been cemented earlier in the game: Missouri trailed 3-1 in the second inning before Mississippi State opened things up. With two outs in the bottom of the second inning. shortstop Ryder Woodson hit a three-run home run to give the Bulldogs a two-run lead.
Missouri arrived with an offense that had already shown it could strike quickly. Kam Durnin. who had three hits and drove in a pair against Ole Miss Tuesday. kicked off the matchup with Mississippi State with a solo home run. In the first inning, Missouri had the early edge before the tournament’s momentum swung hard toward Mississippi State.
The bracket itself is built for this kind of urgency. The second-round matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 with first pitch set for 9:30 a.m. on SEC Network. In addition to Mississippi State vs. Missouri, the second-round slate includes Game 6: No. 5 Florida vs. No. 12 Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. on SEC Network; Game 7: No. 7 Arkansas vs. No. 10 Tennessee at 4:30 p.m. on SEC Network; and Game 8: No. 6 Auburn vs. No. 14 LSU at 8 p.m. on SEC Network. The tournament’s quarterfinals and semifinals run through Friday. May 22 and Saturday. May 23. before the championship game Sunday. May 24 at 1 p.m. on ABC (Fubo).
The storylines from Tuesday’s first round carried that same kind of unpredictability into the bracket’s next layer. LSU, starting as an underdog, played like an SEC favorite against Oklahoma. LSU beat No. 11 Oklahoma 6-2 in the first round of the 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament. helped by a three-hit performance by Derek Curiel and 12 strikeouts from the Tigers pitching staff. LSU will face No. 6 Auburn in the second round at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 on SEC Network.
The scoreboard swings inside LSU–Oklahoma were as sharp as the final result. A Steven Milam two-run home run extended LSU’s lead into the eighth inning, with LSU leading Oklahoma 6-2. Derek Curiel’s RBI double down the left field line helped tie Oklahoma after LSU’s early momentum in the third inning. Oklahoma later took its first lead at 2-1 in the fourth after a wild pitch. a throwing error by LSU catcher Cade Arrambide. and a score that brought Brendan Brock home.
Tennessee’s first round also set the tone for a tournament that refuses to stay tidy. No. 10 Tennessee beat No. 15 South Carolina 11-6 Tuesday, May 19. The Volunteers had 11 runs on 15 hits, headlined by a four-hit day by centerfielder Garrett Wright. Tennessee will take on No. 7 Arkansas in the second round at 4:30 p.m. CT Wednesday, May 20.
Vanderbilt, meanwhile, stayed alive by turning its first round against Kentucky into a series of unanswered strikes. Vanderbilt’s season continues with a 8-4 win over Kentucky in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The Commodores scored seven unanswered to remain alive, and they’ll face No. 5 Florida in the second round at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 20.
Missouri’s tournament life, too, began with a jolt. Missouri has its first SEC Tournament win since 2017 with a 10-8 first-round win against Ole Miss. The No. 16 Tigers will take on No. 8 Mississippi State in the second round at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20. The Tigers are the first SEC team ranked last in the bracket to win a tournament game since Kentucky in 2022. a team that advanced to the semifinals.
Even before the bracket reached the games that were being talked about in real time. the tournament had already produced its own kind of chaos. In Ole Miss vs. Missouri, the Tigers and Rebels combined for the most runs in an SEC Tournament game since 2001. Missouri jumped ahead with a Mateo Serna RBI single setting up a Kaden Peer grand slam to make it 7-2 against Ole Miss in the fifth. After Hayden Federico tied the game 8-8 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jase Woita extended Missouri’s lead with a solo home run.
What matters now is what’s next—and how quickly the bracket can flip when a pitch lands wrong or a hit finds the right gap. The second round starts with Mississippi State vs. Missouri at 9:30 a.m. on SEC Network. but every game in Hoover is already tied together by the same pressure: one loss ends the run. one hot inning rewrites everything.
The broadcast plan matches that urgency. The 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament will air on SEC Network and ABC: SEC Network shows games from the first round through the semifinals, while the SEC conference championship game will air on ABC. Streaming options include the ESPN app and Fubo.
And under the scoreboard noise, the bracket standings show why these teams are chasing each other so hard. Georgia sits at (23-7). Texas at (19-10). Texas A&M at (18-11). Alabama at (18-12). Florida at (18-12). Auburn at (17-13). Arkansas at (17-13). Mississippi State at (16-14). Ole Miss at (15-15). Tennessee at (15-15). Oklahoma at (14-16). Vanderbilt at (14-16). Kentucky at (13-17). LSU at (9-21). South Carolina at (7-23). and Missouri at (6-24).
The tournament is now in motion from Hoover—Tuesday’s results turned into Wednesday’s matchups, and the games that look decisive early are the ones that keep becoming the loudest story by evening.

10-run gap already, wow.
Mississippi State really just wiped Missouri? I swear every SEC tourney is the same, somebody gets blown out in like one inning. Also Hoover is kinda far but I guess that’s baseball.
Wait so they were up 12-2 in the 7th and Missouri still “chased”?? I didn’t realize tournaments had second-round games like that. Sounds like Missouri got unlucky with the error, but also maybe their pitching was just cooked already.
This is why I don’t watch college baseball tournaments, it’s always a massacre early and then everyone pretends it’s competitive. Georgia being No. 1 seed doesn’t mean anything if the bracket is basically whoever gets hot first. Hoover stadium though?? why there like is it always there? my cousin said it used to be in Florida.
