Something you bought was just recalled. What does that mean?
What happens when something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?
More than 2.3 million bottles of a popular rollerball candy are being recalled after federal safety officials warned that a detachable part could pose a choking hazard and cause serious injury or death.
The Ricky Joy Company is recalling roughly 2.3 million Sour Crush Rolling Liquid Candy Bottles because the rollerball at the top of the container can detach, according to a Sept. 10 recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The CPSC said no incidents or injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using the recalled candy immediately, keep it away from children and contact the company for a refund.

Which Ricky Joy candy bottles were recalled?
The recall involves Ricky Joy Sour Crush Rolling Liquid Candy Bottles containing 1.85 fluid ounces of sour liquid candy dispensed through a rollerball top.
The products were sold individually and in packs of three or 12 in four flavors:
- Blue raspberry (blue bottle)
- Strawberry (red bottle)
- Green apple (green bottle)
- Watermelon (pink bottle)
Each bottle features the Ricky Joy logo, the phrases “EXTREME SOUR” and “SOUR CRUSH,” the flavor name and an image of a green monster on the front.
The recalled candy was sold at H-E-B, Forman Mills and other candy stores nationwide, as well as online through Walmart.com, CandyFunHouse.com, RickyJoy.com and other retailers, from January 2023 through May 2026. Individual bottles sold for about $3, while three- and 12-packs retailed for between $13 and $32.
What should consumers do?
Consumers should stop using the recalled candy bottles immediately, take them from their children and contact The Ricky Joy Company to request a refund.
The company will provide customers with a prepaid shipping label to return the recalled product.
