Miley Cyrus suffers a major career blow as she struggles to return to the top of the pop charts

Miley Cyrus attempt to reclaim the top of the pop charts failed with the release of her lead single from her latest album Bass Persuades. The track debuted at number 23 on Spotify’s Global 200 chart on September 3, 2026, only to recline to number 123 the following day before vanishing from the list entirely by day three.

The 33-year-old pop star had rebranded herself as Miley for this album, dropping her last name and announcing “Bass Persuades” as her latest single from the tenth studio album.

While the track performed better on competing platforms, achieving number two on iTunes in the United States and number 41 on Apple Music’s global top 100, the Spotify collapse remained significant.

The commercial struggles with “Bass Persuades” is continuing the streak of her last album, “Something Beautiful,” which was released in May 2025 through Columbia Records.

Singles from the album, including “More to Lose” and “Easy Lover,” disappeared from the charts entirely. The musical film companion released the same week failed to generate the box office success it had hoped to achieve.

The decline marked a stark contrast to her 2023 album “Endless Summer Vacation,” which produced “Flowers,” the biggest hit of her career. The song became a cultural juggernaut and expectations remained high that she will keep up with the charts.

Instead, “Something Beautiful” stumbled despite featuring collaborations with musicians including Molly Rankin and Alec O’Hanley of Alvvays, Cole Haden of Model/Actriz, Danielle Haim, Flea and Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs.
