Mike LaFleur keeps contract talk vague on Brissett
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur offered few specifics about quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s situation Monday, saying only that the team has “had contact” as Brissett remains away while seeking an adjustment to his contract.
Mike LaFleur didn’t tip his hand on Jacoby Brissett’s contract situation when he faced the media on Monday.
At the Cardinals’ press conference, LaFleur acknowledged that Brissett has been working outside the building.. Brissett skipped the first two phases of the team’s voluntary work this spring. as he looks for an adjustment to his contract. and he remained away when organized team activities began on Monday.
LaFleur moved quickly to minimize the disruption. He had done the same earlier this month, when he played down Brissett’s absence by pointing to the veteran’s experience—saying Brissett has “played a lot of football” and would be able to pick up what the team is doing.
On Monday, LaFleur again emphasized that the schematic side wouldn’t be a problem. Brissett, he said, has “done probably everything we’ve ever done schematically.” Everything else, LaFleur added, is status quo from where it was the last time he discussed Brissett’s absence.
“It’s the same as where we were a few weeks ago. . . . We’ve had contact, I’ll leave it at that,” LaFleur said.
When LaFleur weighed the risk of a player missing time, his concern was aimed less at Brissett and more at the younger group. He said he would be more concerned with a younger player missing time.
That point landed on third-round pick Carson Beck, who would fall into that category. Yet LaFleur also noted Beck is getting plenty of action while Brissett is away from the team. He said Beck is seeing time alongside Gardner Minshew during Brissett’s absence.
The picture that emerges from Monday’s comments is clear but tight-lipped: the Cardinals acknowledge contact with Brissett. maintain that the learning curve isn’t the issue. and keep attention on who is continuing to work in his stead—Carson Beck and Gardner Minshew—while the contract dispute remains unresolved.

So basically he’s just ducking the contract again. Love the vague answers.
I don’t get it… “had contact” like what, texts? But he’s outside the building? That seems kinda weird for OTAs. If he wants money just say that.
Beck and Minshew getting reps means Brissett is basically done, right? Like they already moved on. LaFleur kept saying schematics aren’t a problem which is coach-speak for “he’s not coming back soon.”
Why does this sound like Brissett is refusing to practice over like one contract clause? Also they skipped voluntary stuff already? I feel like Carson Beck is gonna get hurt or something because he’s the “younger” guy missing out… unless Minshew takes over and then what, they just keep ignoring the contract? This is messy.
