Former first lady Michelle Obama is making a case for summer stripes with her latest Martha’s Vineyard look.
Obama stepped out in a green-and-white striped Carolina Herrera halter dress during an appearance at the Martha’s Vineyard Author Series, where she joined Michele Norris, MSNBC senior contributing editor and The Race Card Project founder, for a conversation about her book, “The Look.”
The former first lady shared photos from the appearance on Instagram on Aug. 26, offering a closer look at the summery ensemble.
The sleeveless dress, designed by Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon as part of the fashion house’s pre-fall 2026 collection, featured a plunging halter neckline, fitted ruched bodice and full midi-length skirt. Vertical stripes ran down much of the dress before shifting direction along the hem.
Obama opted to wear the dress without the contrasting belt featured in the collection’s original styling. She completed the look with strappy Jimmy Choo sandals, earrings and rings. The former first lady wore her braids pulled into a high ponytail, with several pieces framing her face.
The striped Carolina Herrera dress was not the only outfit she showed off from her Martha’s Vineyard appearances. In another photo shared from the author series, Obama wore a sleeveless salmon-pink tweed dress paired with pointed-toe white heels.

Obama’s fashion choice was fitting for the occasion.
During her conversation with Norris, Obama discussed “The Look,” her book examining the role fashion and beauty have played throughout her public life. The book also looks back at the scrutiny surrounding her clothing choices and appearance during husband Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns and his two terms in the White House.
Obama has continued experimenting with her personal style in the years since leaving the White House, regularly incorporating bold colors, statement silhouettes and contemporary designers into her wardrobe.
