Melania Trump’s $18.2M haul eclipses Vance’s Hillbilly windfall

For Melania Trump, 2025 wasn’t just a year of headlines—it was a payday. A new federal financial disclosure put her earnings between $17.3 million and $18.2 million, dwarfing Vice President J.D. Vance’s reported windfall range of $1.4 million to $7.4 million.

The filings outline two very different arcs in the same political orbit. For Melania, the disclosure credits a jump tied to media ventures, cryptocurrency and book sales. Most of that number traces back to a $10.71 million licensing agreement for Melania, a documentary that Amazon acquired and promoted. Another $6 million came from sales of her memecoin, while $521,000 was tied to the licensing of her 2024 memoir, Melania.

Vance’s earnings, by contrast, are anchored in his comeback story with Hillbilly Elegy. His 2025 income was reported as between $1.4 million and $7.4 million, with the filing also not including his U.S. senator salary before his vice presidency. Most of what he reported came from royalties and advances tied to his 2016 memoir. In 2025, Hillbilly Elegy generated between $1.2 million and $5.2 million—yet it earned less than $100,000 the year before.

That contrast is stark: Melania moved from less-than-$1 million earnings in 2024 to up to $18.2 million in 2025, fueled by a mix of licensing, cryptocurrency and her memecoin. Vance, meanwhile, rode a sustained publishing payoff that had dipped before rebounding in 2025.

The movie deal driving Melania’s numbers also turned into a political flashpoint. The Brett Ratner-directed documentary debuted in 1,500 theaters on January 30 through Amazon MGM Studios. It made $16.7 million worldwide after a $7 million opening weekend, despite mixed reviews from critics.

President Donald Trump, for his part, promoted the project intensely ahead of release, urging supporters to watch and buy tickets. He posted: “MELANIA, the Movie, is a MUST WATCH. Get your tickets today — Selling out. FAST!” In the same push. he called it a “must-watch” while claiming seats were “Selling out. FAST!”.

After the documentary moved to streaming, it continued to dominate attention. Following its debut on Prime Video, Melania became the platform’s most-watched movie, only a day after its streaming launch. Amazon reportedly invested about $75 million in the film—paying $40 million for distribution rights and another $35 million to market the documentary.

That spending—and how it aligned with Trump’s promotion—did not sit quietly on the Hill. The deal drew scrutiny from Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Hank Johnson, who questioned whether Amazon sought favorable treatment from the Trump administration through the agreement. They described it as a possible “corrupt pay-to-play arrangement” and requested an investigation into the company’s relationship with the White House.

Amazon denied the allegations and said the documentary deal was not a political favor.

  1. So she made like 18 million off a documentary and crypto/memecoin? I’m sorry but isn’t that just insider stuff in a suit. Like how is this not a conflict of interest.

  2. Wait he didn’t even count his senator salary? That’s kinda shady of the filing if you ask me. Also I thought J.D. Vance was broke broke, but now it’s like 7 million. The whole thing is just rich people math to me.

  3. Melania’s “memecoin” made what, 6 million?? I read somewhere it was all a scam and then she somehow got licensing money too. And the Hillbilly Elegy thing only made 1.2 to 5.2 mil?? That seems like not that much compared to 18.2 but I guess theaters and royalties matter. The part where it says it played in 1,500 theaters on Jan 30—so like 2026??? I can’t keep up.
