Melania Trump stays away from Don Jr.’s Bahamas wedding

Melania Trump was absent from Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson’s intimate Bahamas wedding over Memorial Day weekend, with insiders claiming her distance from Don Jr.’s older half-siblings—alongside broader family tensions—played a role.
Melania Trump didn’t step into the Bahamas celebrations for Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson—now a detail that’s being read less as scheduling and more as silence.
The first lady reportedly skipped the May 23 wedding in the Bahamas over Memorial Day weekend, and Donald Trump also did not attend, according to insiders. The claim running through the family accounts: long-standing tensions inside the Trump family helped shape the outcome.
One insider, speaking to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack column, said Melania “did not want to spend a full weekend with Donald’s adult children from previous marriages.” The source added that the tension “has existed for years,” even if it hasn’t been publicly discussed.
Those reports also point to Barron Trump. He was said to have skipped the wedding festivities as well. with sources alleging he has little connection with his older half-siblings. Another source claimed Barron “grew up in a completely different world from Don Jr. Eric. Ivanka and Tiffany. ” adding: “There’s emotional distance there. and everyone in the family knows it.”.
Melania, 56, shares son Barron Trump, 20, with President Donald Trump, 79. The president’s older children—Don Jr. 48; Ivanka Trump. 44; and Eric Trump. 42—were welcomed with his first wife. Ivana Trump. who died at 73 in 2022. He also shares daughter Tiffany Trump, 32, with his second wife, Marla Maples, 62.
While the first lady reportedly stayed quiet about her absence, President Trump offered an explanation for not being there. On Truth Social on May 22. he said he “very much wanted to be with my son. Don Jr. and the newest member of the Trump Family. his soon to be wife. Bettina. ” but that “circumstances pertaining to Government. and my love for the United States of America. do not allow me to do so.” He added that he needed “to remain in Washington. D.C. at the White House during this important period of time. ” and ended with “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”.
One day earlier, the president hinted his presence might be limited. In the Oval Office. he told reporters: “Uh… he’d like me to go. but it’s gonna be just a small little private affair.” He said he would “try and make it. ” but called it “not good timing” because he had “a thing called Iran and other things.”.
The Bahamas ceremony followed earlier plans that reportedly shifted away from a White House wedding. Insiders said the couple knew that “a lavish wedding at the White House while people are dying wouldn’t be well-received.”
Ahead of the Bahamas event. Don and Bettina had quietly legally tied the knot on May 21 in West Palm Beach. Fla. according to Palm Beach County records. The ceremony was officiated by real estate attorney Brad McPherson, who is married to Anderson’s sister. Don’s second marriage and Anderson’s first. the match was then celebrated with the Bahamas wedding over Memorial Day weekend—without Melania. and without the president.
That absence now lands in the middle of two competing stories: one about duty and international strain, and another about how family relationships can quietly shape who shows up when the cameras arrive.
