Megyn Kelly Defends Trump After NBC Interview Walkout

Megyn Kelly said she fully agreed with Donald Trump walking off NBC News’ “Meet the Press” interview with Kristen Welker after the conversation turned personal and antagonistic.
Donald Trump didn’t just end his weekend NBC News interview with Kristen Welker—he walked out. And on Monday, Megyn Kelly made it clear she didn’t see it as a surprise.
On “The Megyn Kelly Show. ” the host said she agreed with the president’s decision after the “Meet the Press” segment aired Sunday turned “very antagonistic.” Kelly argued that Welker leaned into a back-and-forth she should have pulled back from—especially once the exchange shifted into something centered on NBC News and Welker instead of the issues.
“The problem for Kristen Welker is she made that moment about Kristen Welker and about the vaunted reputation of NBC News. ” Kelly said. “When you are interviewing the president of the United States. especially Donald Trump. you’re going to have to give him a little. You’ve got to give him something. There’s a back and forth in an interview where you can’t just keep battering him over the head at every turn.”.

Kelly also pointed to how Trump’s anger was playing out in real time. “He’s angry with you,” she said. “Don’t take the bait. You don’t have to respond to the personal attack in the moment just because he makes it. Or maybe try to be playful. Maybe try to lighten the mood because you can see he’s getting agitated. He’s got a lot on his plate. The whole thing was very antagonistic.”.
She concluded that by the time Trump stood up and left, she didn’t blame him. “And so, if you watch the whole thing, there was a lot of this prior to the moment we just showed you. And honestly, by the time he got up and walked away, I didn’t blame him, and I wasn’t surprised. She was rude.”
The walkout happened during the interview when Trump was pressed about having evidence that the 2020 election was rigged. The questions then extended to the current mayoral and gubernatorial races in California. with Trump responding to claims that those contests are rigged. As Trump grew angry, Welker attempted to pivot away from the heated exchange, but Trump leaned into the attack.
Kelly’s comments landed against the backdrop of Trump’s sharp escalation on air. He accused Welker and multiple outlets of bias. saying. “They’re crooked just like you’re crooked. your press is crooked. ” and adding that “‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.” He then broadened the criticism further. saying. “‘Meet the Press’ is crooked. ” “And so is ABC and CBS and CNN. You’re a one-sided crooked network. Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”.
After that. Trump took off his mic and stood up before returning to address Welker again as she continued trying to get him to stay for the remainder of the interview. “I’ve sat in the rain with you … for an hour. ” Trump said. describing the time he felt he had already given the segment. “On and off in the rain, and I’ve given you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press, because you know what?. A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”.
Kelly told viewers they could watch her discussion through a video segment shared on her show.

Walked out? honestly kinda based.
So Megyn is saying Kristen should’ve just not asked tough questions? bc that sounds like the “give him something” part. I dunno, interviews are literally for questions.
I think the whole “don’t take the bait” thing is like, yeah sure, but he also baited her first right? Like when he gets mad and she keeps going it’s her fault too? seems convenient. Also NBC making it about NBC is weird bc they’re the ones who interviewed him lol.
NBC deserved it? Or Trump deserved it? I can’t even tell anymore. Megyn Kelly saying she had to give him “a little” feels like she’s blaming Welker for his attitude, like she supposed to manage his emotions instead of fact-checking. And if he’s the president with “a lot on his plate,” why is he swinging it at the reporter… unless this is all planned for ratings which wouldn’t surprise me.
