Robert Carradine’s final days were meant to be another step toward care. Instead, a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital became the setting of his last moments—one that later ended in weeks of unanswered time, and a death date set for February 23.

Carradine died back in February by suicide after battling bipolar disorder and more for two decades before his tragic death. Now. a new medical examiner’s report is laying out additional details about what happened in the period leading up to his passing. including the mental health struggles his family described and how he was found.

The report says his daughter told investigators that Carradine had struggled with mental illness for about 20 years and had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It also states he reportedly faced severe depression and anxiety and was taking multiple medications.

Before he was found, Carradine checked himself into a psychiatric hospital in Los Angeles. The report says he had previously received treatment there for ongoing suicidal ideation. In the hospital, an employee went to his room to tell him his daughter was on the phone. Shortly after, he was found hanging and unresponsive.

The medical examiner’s report states Carradine was in cardiac arrest. No suicide note was found. Medical personnel tried to resuscitate him, and he was transferred to an intensive care unit.

Carradine then passed away weeks later on February 23.

It was previously reported that his manner of death was ruled a suicide, and the cause of death was revealed to be “sequelae of anoxic brain injury from hanging.”

His loved ones remain in the thoughts of those following his story.

  1. I don’t get how you can be on meds for bipolar and still end up hanging. Like what weren’t they watching him closer or something? Also the part about no note feels like people will just argue forever.

  2. They said anoxic brain injury from hanging… ok so it wasn’t “instant” right, he lingered. That’s why it says he died weeks later? The hospital employee going to tell him his daughter was on the phone sounds random to me, like was that a trigger or just timing?

  3. This is one of those stories where everyone wants to blame someone, like the hospital, or the meds, or “mental illness” like it’s a switch. If his daughter said 20 years of bipolar then why wasn’t he monitored better every second. Also I saw another headline that said something like “safety failure” but this report doesn’t really say that, so idk. Either way sad, but I’m confused how he checked in and then was found hanging so fast.
