Wonder Woman Prequel Paradise Lost Finds Head Writers

Three years into the new DCU, Paradise Lost—the Wonder Woman prequel set in Themyscira—is still in “extreme development,” and the Writers Guild of America listing now points to head writers Kira Snyder and Janet Lin attached to the project.
For months. Wonder Woman fans have been stuck in the same frustrating limbo: Paradise Lost exists. it’s real. and it’s still not giving much away. Back in April. Andy Muschietti confirmed on Threads that the Themyscira-set prequel was in “extreme development. ” saying it was moving forward even if the updates weren’t coming.
Now, the project appears closer to locking itself in. Kira Snyder and Janet Lin are both listed as attached on the Writers Guild of America website for Paradise Lost—though their exact roles. including whether they’re showrunners or something else. haven’t been spelled out. Gunn has not offered official confirmation about their involvement. but the listing has become the clearest sign yet that head-writer level work is underway for the Wonder Woman prequel.
Snyder and Lin also bring credits that fit the tone this series seems built for. Snyder previously wrote and produced for The Handmaid’s Tale and For All Mankind. Lin worked on the first season of Bridgerton. Together. they’re stepping into a project that approaches Themyscira from a historical perspective—before Diana ever wielded her Lasso of Truth.
The DCU’s larger schedule is already shifting in ways that make a Paradise Lost update feel even more meaningful. Three years after James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins of the new DCU. Superman arrived last year to kick off the franchise’s cinematic push. earning $618.7 million and drawing strong reviews for David Corenswet’s Clark Kent. After that, Gods and Monsters—outlined in 2023 as DCU’s first chapter—saw deviations as other projects continued to develop. The next two years will also include two releases not among the original ten titles announced: Mike Flanagan-penned Clayface in October and the Lex Luthor and Superman team-up. Man of Tomorrow. premiering next summer. Supergirl and Lanterns are also set for this summer.
Some of the initial ten titles are currently on pause, including the Authority movie. Still, two other works tied to what Gunn calls some of DC’s “diamond characters” remain in development. The Brave and the Bold. which will introduce the DCU’s Batman. added a new screenwriter—Christina Hodson—earlier this year. Yet Andy Muschietti’s take on the Dark Knight is still a ways off.
There’s also a wider Wonder Woman through-line that Gunn has already been laying even before live-action production accelerates. Safran previously likened Paradise Lost to Game of Thrones. explaining that it would explore “all the darkness and drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women. ” while answering questions about Themyscira’s existence.
Gunn’s animated start in the franchise has helped set the stage for what comes next too. His first DCU animated series. Creature Commandos. introduced the rogue Amazonian sorceress Circe (Anya Chalotra). a major adversary for Wonder Woman—one of the ways the universe keeps building its mythology while live-action timelines stretch.
As for whether Wonder Woman will be returning to screens soon, Gunn has also previously mentioned wanting to make a Wonder Woman animated show, but there are no indications that such a project is in motion right now.
Paradise Lost remains in development—now with Snyder and Lin attached on paper—and Diana’s return to the big screen may still take time. The writing side, though, is starting to look less like an open-ended wait and more like a job that’s finally getting done.

So they finally hired people but it’s still “extreme development”?? That’s just fancy for never lol.
I don’t get why they can’t just say who’s running it. “Head writers attached” sounds like they’re already doing everything but not telling fans anything. I feel like this is gonna slip again and then they’ll blame the actors or something.
Wait so Wonder Woman prequel about Themyscira is in “extreme development” for like 3 years and they’re bragging about head writers? I swear DC moves slower than my cable internet. Also I saw someone say Gunn confirmed it on Threads like that makes it official, but maybe that’s not even true?
I’m weirdly okay with them taking time if they’re gonna do a historical angle before Diana. But at the same time, Writers Guild listing isn’t the same as “we’re filming.” It’s like they’re dangling it. Kira Snyder/Janet Lin sounds promising though, like Handmaid’s Tale vibes?? Not sure how that matches Paradise Island unless it’s gonna be super dark. Either way I’m still waiting for an actual date.
