McDonald’s cheeseburgers dipped in Coca-Cola sound good? See reviews

Influencers have the internet in a food-induced debate after insisting that McDonald’s cheeseburgers pair perfectly with an unexpected condiment – Coca-Cola.

Social media users have been trying the combination by dipping their burgers into the popular soda, prompting commenters to playfully push back against the viral concoction. Virginia-based TikToker @theangelfoodie said the McDonald’s cheeseburger/Coke combo dates back to high school.

“I used to eat it like this a lot in high school, but I haven’t had this in years,” @theangelfoodie says in the video. “It’s not as good as I remember, but it’s not bad.”

In the video, the content creator takes a McDonald’s McDouble with cheese and dunks it into a cup of Coca-Cola at least four times before taking a bite.

McDonald’s saw the April 29 video and had just one question.

“Just why,” the company’s official account wrote in the comment section.

McDonald’s UK later commented, “I see nothing wrong.”

Since the initial video, @theangelfoodie has shared at least three more clips trying the combination with more patties. The videos have a combined total of nearly 13 million views as of Thursday, Aug. 6.

USA TODAY contacted McDonald’s and Coca-Cola on Aug. 6 for comment. Here’s what else social media has to say about the trend.

‘These cheeseburgers are so dry’

In @theangelfoodie’s now-viral April TikTok video, the influencer said the idea came from watching speed eaters dip their food in water to make it easier to swallow. The TikToker decided to swap out water for Coca-Cola, and the combo quickly became a go-to.

The TikToker even compared it to biting a cheeseburger and drinking Coca-Cola at the same time.

“And these cheeseburgers are so dry, they just need a little something extra,” the content creator said in the April video.

Once social media users got wind of @theangelfoodie’s combo recommendation, some took to the TikToker’s now-viral videos’ comment section to share that the Coca-Cola-soaked burgers ruined their day and even their entire season.“Summer ruined at 2:07,” wrote one user, adding crying emojis.

Coca-Cola even chimed in, commenting “Oh?” under a May 29 post.

The burger/soda combo has become so divisive that on June 3, rival fast-food chain Arby’s had to offer its two cents.

“Let’s rethink this burger situation,” the company wrote on June 5.

Mixed reviews as other foodies try McDonald’s burger trend

TikToker @JoeOhEats tried the burger in a June 13 post, shouting out @theangelfoodie for starting the trend. The TikToker dipped a McDonald’s triple cheeseburger into a cup of Coca-Cola, initially expressing some nervousness about the taste.

“It lowkey works,” he said. “It’s like a combination of sweet and salty. The cheese inside of the cheeseburger kind of enhances it. You taste more of the cheese.”

Joe then tried a cheeseburger without the soda to see the difference.

“Strangely, if you just eat the cheeseburger, you don’t taste (the) cheeseburger as much,” @JoeOhEats said. “But if you dip it in Coke, it kind of elevates the flavor. It kind of elevates the taste of everything.”

TikToker @shaysdailyeats also tried the trend, this time with Sprite. As she tried the cheeseburger, a piece of the bun fell into the soda and floated in the cup.

“It’s so soggy,” the content creator said, fishing the bun out of the cup and eating it.

“I’ll pass,” Shay wrote in the July 22 caption, tagging McDonald’s.
