Matt Bellamy files for divorce from Elle Evans, requests sole custody

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy is ending his marriage to model Elle Evans.

The British musician, 48, filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday, Aug. 12, citing irreconcilable differences, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY. The filing comes just two days after the former couple’s seventh wedding anniversary.

Bellamy and Evans, 36, got engaged in 2017 and tied the knot on Aug. 10, 2019. In the filing, he listed their date of separation as “TBD.”

He also requested sole legal and physical custody of their two children, daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2. He asked the court to award Evans spousal support and terminate his right to receive support, pursuant to the terms of their prenuptial agreement.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Bellamy and Evans for comment.

Matt Bellamy announced his split from Elle Evans in June

In a June interview with “The i Paper,” Bellamy confirmed he and Evans broke up last summer, telling the outlet the split was difficult to explain “because it’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is.”

“It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life,” he said. “It threw me off, and I had to prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”

He added that he wrote Muse’s 10th studio album, “The Wow! Signal,” which released June 26, “right in the depths of this life-changing experience.”

“It was just – boom. It would just pour out of me. It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me,” Bellamy revealed.

In addition to the kids he shares with Evans, Bellamy is also father to 15-year-old son Bingham, who he welcomed with ex-fiancée Kate Hudson.
