CHATTANOOGA, TN — It didn’t take long for Marshall Manning to earn some playing time early in his high school football career.
Midway through the second quarter of Baylor’s season-opener on ESPN2 against Nashville-based Brentwood Academy, the son of Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning entered the game for Ole Miss quarterback commit Keegan Croucher.
Instead of running it on back-to-back plays, Baylor let the younger Manning sling it.
On his first varsity snap, Marshall rolled to his right, got the pass just over a Brentwood Academy linebacker’s outstretched arms and connected with junior receiver Antwaun Adams for a first down.
Baylor would run the ball on the next play and Croucher returned to complete the drive.
Manning transferred to Baylor ahead of his eighth grade year from Denver and is serving as Baylor’s backup quarterback this season.
