Marratxi repairs rural roads after residents’ complaints

Marratxi Town Hall has completed improvement works on several rural roads in the areas of Son Ametler and Sa Comuna, investing more than €4,000 to repair damaged surfaces and improve access for residents, farmers and agricultural vehicles. According to local officials, the project focused on restoring stretches of unpaved roads that had deteriorated following months of regular use and changing weather conditions. Heavy machinery was used to level the terrain, reinforce surfaces and improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians who use the routes daily.
Safer access for residents and farmers The works were carried out by the municipality’s Environment department as part of an ongoing rural maintenance plan aimed at preserving Marratxi’s infrastructure and countryside access routes. Councillor Manuel Vega explained that the intervention would help maintain safer connections between residential and agricultural areas while also protecting the municipality’s traditional rural landscape. Residents living near Son Ametler and Sa Comuna had previously raised concerns about potholes, uneven surfaces and dust caused by deteriorated sections of road. The repairs are
expected to improve mobility while also helping prevent further damage during the busy summer months, when rural roads often experience increased traffic and dry weather conditions. Continued investment in rural infrastructure Local farmers and property owners welcomed the improvements, saying the repaired tracks would make everyday journeys easier and considerably safer. Marratxi continues investing in maintenance and infrastructure projects across both urban and rural areas of the municipality as part of wider efforts to improve public services and preserve local environments. Rural roads remain particularly
important for agricultural access, maintenance vehicles and residents living outside more urbanised areas. Municipal authorities say maintaining these routes in good condition also helps improve safety and reduce long-term repair costs caused by erosion and weather damage. The latest intervention forms part of a broader programme of local maintenance works currently taking place across Marratxi ahead of the summer season.
