Mariners’ trio erupts in extra innings, Crawford shines

Mariners' trio – Missing Cal Raleigh for much of May hasn’t slowed Seattle’s power surge. On Friday night, Julio Rodríguez, J.P. Crawford, and Luke Raley combined for four homers—including Crawford’s first career multi-homer game—in a 7-6, 10-inning win over the Arizona Diamon

The power bat of Cal Raleigh has been missing from the Seattle Mariners lineup for much of May. It has left a gap that didn’t stay empty for long.

Friday night, the Mariners’ offense looked like it found its footing in the late innings. Julio Rodríguez, J.P. Crawford. and Luke Raley combined for four home runs as Seattle held on for a 7-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in 10 innings. Crawford delivered the night’s headline: his first career multi-homer game.

The timing mattered. In a game that stretched into the extra inning, it wasn’t just that the Mariners hit—they hit in a way that flipped momentum. All three players tied or set new personal bests for home runs in a single month during the game.

Rodríguez hit a two-run homer Friday that carried a bigger story inside it. It was his third in his past five games and his ninth homer this month. That number matters because it moved past the eight he hit in September/October 2023 and July 2025—his most in a single month during his five-year career. He’s tied with Minnesota’s Byron Buxton for the most homers by a primary center fielder in May this season. Rodríguez also ranks second behind Buxton in slugging percentage (.583), OPS (.899), and wRC+ (155). The contrast is telling: Buxton has been the designated hitter in nine of his 20 games played this month. while Rodríguez has played all but one of his 26 games in center field.

Through Friday, Rodríguez has 11 homers on the season and is on pace for 31—just one shy of his career high.

Crawford’s contribution felt like the kind of swing that changes how a night is remembered. His two-homer game included one of the most impressive blasts of his career: a 417-foot homer to center field off a well-located changeup. The second homer pushed his total for the month to seven, matching his career-best total from September/October 2023. He’s tied with Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. for the most home runs by an MLB shortstop this month.

Crawford’s season pace now points toward 25 homers. His career high sits at 19 during the 2023 campaign.

Then there was Raley, who has been steadying Seattle’s right side of the lineup like a dependable engine. On Friday, he hit his team-leading 12th homer, and it was his seventh of the month. That ties March/April 2023 for Raley’s career best. Raley leads all primary right fielders in home runs this month, with St. Louis’ Jordan Walker only one behind. The difference is how much it’s taken to get there—Raley has produced his number with 36 fewer plate appearances.

The numbers back up what the ball looked like off the bat. Among right fielders with at least 50 plate appearances, Raley is first in slugging percentage (.690), OPS (1.055), and wRC+ (199). His wRC+ is also the best among all players in baseball with at least 60 plate appearances in May.

Raley’s pace is equally loud: he’s on track for 34 homers this year, which would shatter his career high of 22 during the 2024 season.

The sequence is clear in the way it stacks—while the Mariners have worked through missing Cal Raleigh for much of May. Rodríguez. Crawford. and Raley have kept turning the lineup into a home-run threat. and Friday’s 10-inning win proved it wasn’t just a streak on paper. It was power that showed up when the game demanded it.

Seattle still has the wider May picture to play out, but after four homers in one night—plus new monthly marks for all three—the message is hard to miss. The trio is carrying weight, and their month is building momentum that doesn’t look close to slowing.

  1. So Cal Raleigh was missing and they still hit like 4 homers, okay that’s kinda insane. I swear every time I check the score it’s like 7-6 and then suddenly extra innings.

  2. Crawford getting a first career multi-homer game is cool but wasn’t this all because Arizona threw BP or something? Like I feel like the Dbacks always collapse late, not sure though.

  3. Luke Raley homers? I always get Luke Raley and Cal Raleigh mixed up, like why are there two Raleys 😵‍💫 Anyway Mariners offense is back, but I thought missing Cal for May would ruin them, so what changed?? Probably that center fielder stuff??
