Mariners bring back Nick Davila from Triple-A Tacoma

The Seattle Mariners have recalled right-handed pitcher Nick Davila from Triple-A Tacoma, after a stint that included relief appearances for Seattle and a season line of 0–1 with a 2.77 ERA between Tacoma and Arkansas.

BALTIMORE — The Seattle Mariners swung the roster back toward the mound, recalling right-hander Nick Davila from Triple-A Tacoma. The move came after Davila had been optioned to Tacoma on May 25.

Davila, 27, had already spent time with Seattle this season. After being selected from Double-A Arkansas on May 2. he made 7 relief appearances with the Mariners. throwing 7.1 innings and allowing 3 hits and 6 walks with 4 strikeouts. His Major League debut arrived shortly after that selection on May 3 against Kansas City. when he pitched 1.0 inning with 1 hit. 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

Between Tacoma and Arkansas this season, Davila has gone 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA, posting 4 ER over 13.0 IP. He has also collected 2 walks, 12 strikeouts and 2 saves in 12 games at the minor league level.

The roster shake-up also carries a reminder of how Davila’s pro path has been built piece by piece. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers on July 7, 2020. He later signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on March 27, 2023. Over 6 minor league seasons across the Tigers (2021-22) and Mariners organizations (2023-c). he has combined for a 18-30 record with a 3.94 ERA (155 ER. 353.2 IP). 105 walks and 341 strikeouts in 126 games. including 42 starts. This spring, he was invited to Major League Spring Training and appeared in 7 Cactus League games.

At 6-foot-3, Davila is a Hialeah, Florida native. He played one season at the University of South Florida after transferring from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.

Alongside the Davila move. Seattle also made the roster math shift with Criswell. 29. whose Major League time has been more visible this season. Criswell has appeared in 26 games for the Mariners, going 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA (12 ER, 30.2 IP), 8 walks, 23 strikeouts and 1 save. Seattle acquired him from the New York Mets on January 23 in exchange for cash considerations. and he made 6 appearances during Spring Training.

Criswell’s path through the majors has been spread across multiple stops. He has appeared in parts of 5 Major League seasons with the Angels (2021). Rays (2022-23). Red Sox (2024-25) and Mariners (2026). going a combined 10-8 with a 4.32 ERA (89 ER. 185.1 IP). 56 walks and 136 strikeouts over 71 career Major League appearances. including 21 starts.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander was born in Carrollton, Georgia, played one season at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

  2. Wait, didn’t he already pitch for Seattle earlier this year? Sounds like they sent him down May 25 then immediately brought him back like a week later. I don’t really get the point of “optioned” if they just call him up again.

  3. This article makes it sound like Davila is some savior but he’s 18-30 in his career? Like okay 3.94 ERA but still… also Criswell is on his 5th team already? baseball is wild. I can’t even keep up who is in the rotation anymore.
