Manchester United near cash boost for Fernandes move

Manchester United are on course for a cash injection that may help fund a move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. According to the Manchester Evening News, when Man United sold Mason Greenwood to Marseille on a permanent transfer in 2024, they retained a substantial 40 per cent sell-on clause in the £26million deal. Now, if the latest developments coming out of Turkey are to be believed, then Man Utd are poised to bank around £19m with Marseille demanding around £47.5m from Fenerbahce for Greenwood.

Interestingly, Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi has declared that the Turkish club will sign the 24-year-old, should he become club president, with an agreement in place with the player already. “We have signed a four-year agreement with Mason Greenwood,” Safi said. He has proven himself at the highest level of European football. “He has agreed to join Fenerbahce during the most valuable and productive years of his career. “I said I would bring a star player. Today, I am experiencing the justified pride of keeping

my promise.” Man Utd have already recouped £38m this summer following confirmation that Rasmus Hojlund’s loan spell with Napoli has been made permanent after helping the Serie A club qualify for the Champions League. Furthermore, Casemiro’s eye-watering £350,000-a-week salary is set to come off the wage bill when he officially departs on June 30, and Michael Carrick is expected to use the freed-up funds to sign two new midfielders. Ederson of Atalanta is the first target, with a £35m deal in place. Meanwhile, United have

shown an interest in West Ham’s Fernandes. Standard Sport understands the Hammers have set an aspirational asking price of £80m for the highly-rated midfielder as internally they believe he can go on to become one of the best players on the planet in the next two years.

  1. So they sold Greenwood and magically got like 19m? Doesn’t sound like much tbh, but also football math is weird.

  2. Wait I thought Casemiro was still at the club… 350k a week coming off the wage bill like that’s just free money??

  3. Hakan Safi says he signed a four-year agreement already with Greenwood… but didn’t United sell him to Marseille? I’m confused like is he going to Turkey or not. Also Fernandes for £80m seems insane, West Ham probably just wants attention.

  4. Manchester United “on course” for cash boost like they’re planning a heist lol. If Marseille are demanding 47.5m and Fenerbahce candidate is promising stuff, sounds like politics not football. Meanwhile they’re trying to buy another midfielder when they could’ve just kept the last one they had??
