A celebration meant for joy turned into a crime scene near Hornsey Road, just minutes from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, as police moved quickly after a man was stabbed.
Arsenal’s Premier League title parade took over streets in north London on Sunday afternoon. with the Gunners marking their first top-flight triumph in 22 years less than 24 hours after losing the Champions League final. Thousands of fans lined the route. but the Met Police said a mix of offences followed as the evening unfolded. including drunk and disorderly behaviour. drugs offences. sexual assault. and assaults on emergency workers.
The disorder reached a new level of volatility captured on footage: a group of hooligans climbed onto the roof of a police van, some appearing to drink, as they banged their fists against the vehicle and chanted while footballs were thrown.
By 9:33pm, the Met Police confirmed that an area was cordoned off after the stabbing on Hornsey Road—roughly 15 minutes from the Emirates Stadium. A man was taken to hospital, while the number of arrests made during the celebrations reached 16.
Police also confirmed six people were arrested for assaulting police officers. Elsewhere during the event. London Fire Brigade crews said they rescued approximately 75 people from incidents at height and urged supporters to stop climbing onto rooftops while the celebrations continued. The fire service said they attended a fire at a hotel. believed to have been caused by a stray flare. adding that pyrotechnics were also thought to have triggered fire alarms at several other locations in the area.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said the fire caused only a small amount of damage to the exterior of the building.
Outside the emergency response, the scale of the day was massive. Up to one million people were thought to have lined the streets of north London for Arsenal’s historic parade.
The club had issued warnings before the march began at around 2pm. asking supporters to be mindful of younger fans and families along the route and considerate to local residents and businesses. The message also told supporters to follow instructions from stewards. event staff and police. and not to climb or attach anything to scaffolding. trees. lampposts. statues. railings. or other street furniture. It also reminded fans that flares, fireworks and pyrotechnics were strictly prohibited and could lead to police action.
Taken together, the police arrests, the stabbing on Hornsey Road and the fire brigade rescues left a stark contrast behind the image of a title parade just hours after a crushing Champions League defeat.

16 arrests is insane for a parade.
So they just let people climb on a police van roof and throw stuff?? Then someone gets stabbed… shocking but also not. Why does this always happen around football celebrations.
Wait I thought the stab was at the stadium itself like inside the Emirates?? Hornsey Road sounds like miles away. Either way 16 arrests sounds like the cops were just picking people up for being loud. Also “stray flare” starting a hotel fire?? That part feels like it should be on someone.
Honestly this is why I don’t do crowds. One minute it’s the parade and the next it’s assaults, drugs, sexual assault, emergency workers… like how did it even get that bad that fast. Also 75 people rescued from height?? That’s terrifying. Can’t tell if the fireworks/flaring started it or if people were already acting wild, but either way someone’s gonna blame the wrong thing like “just alcohol” or “just hooligans.”
