Man dies after becoming trapped in burning grain bin at Marshall County family farm, coroner says

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – A man died Monday after becoming trapped inside a grain bin at a family farm near Argos, according to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.

First responders were dispatched to the farm in the 14000 block of Maple Road just before 4:15 p.m. The coroner’s office was notified of the death just after 5 p.m.

The victim was identified as Jonathon Hayn of Argos.

According to the coroner’s office, Hayn had been working inside a grain bin when it appears he became overcome by smoke after the grain began burning. Family members and workers attempted to remove Hayn from the bin but were unable to fully rescue him.

Firefighters were ultimately able to remove Hayn from the grain bin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine Hayn’s exact cause of death.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said it will release additional information when it becomes available.
