A woman was found unconscious on the ground in Mattapan after police were called to a reported carjacking, and by the time officers arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boston Police arrested Ibraim Matos, 37, on Saturday for an incident investigators say began near 1466 Blue Hill Ave. and ended moments later with a crash involving an MBTA bus.

Police said they were called around 1:59 p.m. on Saturday for the reported carjacking near 1466 Blue Hill Ave. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious woman lying on the ground, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Just up the road, police discovered a car crash involving an MBTA bus and a large crowd surrounding the crash, the Boston Police Department said. Officers approached the scene and found multiple bystanders restraining a man. Police later identified that man as Matos.

Investigators said the incident started when Matos and another vehicle hit one another in the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Woodhaven Street. Police said Matos allegedly fled his damaged car and headed to a car wash, where he “approached a female victim who was waiting at the car wash.”

Police allege Matos forcibly removed the woman from her car and sped away.

After the carjacking, BPD said Matos continued down Blue Hill Avenue at an accelerated rate of speed on the sidewalk, where he eventually struck the victim. Police said the suspect then crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Fairhaven Street.

Police said Matos fled the scene again, but stopped only after he allegedly hit an MBTA bus near 1629 Blue Hill Ave., Boston police said. The department said he was then forcibly removed from the vehicle and restrained by several community members until officers arrived.

A video obtained by WCVB showed Matos bleeding from his ear as bystanders yelled at him, including one person who shouted, “You killed somebody.”

Hours later, Saturday evening, police arrested a second man tied to a separate incident at the edge of the investigation.

While guarding a crime scene for a fatal motor vehicle collision that had occurred hours earlier. officers said they were alerted that an unknown male had entered the taped-off crime scene near the intersection of Fairway Street and Blue Hill Avenue. Police said the man appeared to be laughing while recording the crime scene.

Police approached the man before he ran. and police said he dropped an “unknown liquid” in the middle of the crime scene. BPD said he continued to run around the area while laughing and video recording before evading several officers. Police said he was eventually apprehended on the median of Blue Hill Avenue.

Police eventually arrested Robert Monestime, 21. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of disturbing the peace and interfering with a police officer, police said.

The MBTA did not respond to a request for comment on Sunday night. Attorney information for both Monestime and Matos was not available as of Sunday night.

Matos is expected to be charged with murder, carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, the Boston Police Department announced on Sunday.

  1. MBTA bus involved and people just gathered around like nothing… smh. Sounds like this guy was running from everything at once.

  2. Wait so the MBTA bus crash killed the woman? I feel like the article is kinda jumping around because it says unconscious then crash then pronounced dead… idk. Either way Boston should fix these intersections.

  3. It says he fled twice and hit a victim on the sidewalk and then stopped after crashing into a bus?? I mean that’s wild, but also like how is someone even out there at a car wash when all this is happening. Blue Hill Ave is basically chaos. Hopefully they keep looking at whoever the other vehicle was too because it sounded like he hit someone first then all hell broke loose.
