Mamdani trolls Ramaswamy as Knicks sweep Cavs 4-0

Mamdani trolls – New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated the Knicks’ 4-0 Eastern Conference Finals sweep over the Cleveland Cavaliers with X posts that included jabs at Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy after Game 4’s 130-93 blowout.

The Cleveland Cavaliers knew the series was slipping early. After their Game 1 implosion, they kept replaying the same question: how did it turn into a prolonged loss to the New York Knicks?

By Game 4, the answer was plain. The Knicks routed Cleveland 130-93, completing a 4-0 sweep and punching their ticket to the NBA Finals. In New York, that meant celebration — including from Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

After the win, Mamdani posted on X, trading on humor as New Yorkers piled into the comments to react. On both his personal account and official account, he retweeted a post by Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy. That post included a photo of Ramaswamy with his wife, Apoorva Ramaswamy. The caption read: “Date night in Cleveland. Let’s go Cavs … all the way back!”.

The retweet lit up the timeline. One commenter wrote: “The first time I think maybe ever that I’ve been legitimately impressed by a politicians sense of humour lol.” Another said: “I cannot stop laughing at this. It’s so perfect. In every way.”

Mamdani then leaned into the “sweep” theme in a way that pulled New York agencies into the joke. He tagged NYC Sanitation and wrote: “I’d like to report a sweep.” The department responded: “CLEAN UP IN CLEVELAND!!”

For Cleveland, the loss carried its own list of causes — starting with that Game 1 implosion and extending to how the Cavaliers “prolong[ed] prior series.” For Mamdani, the night belonged to turning momentum into a public moment of ribbing.

The contrast with earlier political theater is hard to miss. Last year. it was reported that a billboard appeared in Times Square telling New Yorkers to leave the city because of Mamdani. “Worried About Zohran?. Ohio Is Waiting For You. ” the ad read. and it was paid for by a Super PAC for Ramaswamy. according to Fox Business at the time.

Taken together, Mamdani’s posts after the Knicks’ sweep didn’t just celebrate a basketball result. They drew a line from the series outcome to the kind of back-and-forth that already surrounds his political clash with Ramaswamy — now amplified, in real time, by a city’s sports joy.
