Mallory Hawk’s Chinook Drops July 31, Debut Revolver

Mallory Hawk has set her debut album Chinook for release on July 31, pairing it with the new single “Revolver.” Alongside the previously released “Felicity,” the album also features tracks artwork and a video directed by Aldo Fisk, while Hawk draws on past ban

Mallory Hawk is stepping out as a frontwoman at last. Her debut album, Chinook, is slated for release on July 31, and she’s already offering a closer look with a new track: “Revolver,” a twangy, slow-burning addition to a record that also includes the previously released single “Felicity.”

The song comes with a video directed by Aldo Fisk, and the visual world extends beyond the screen. The album artwork is painted by Margo Schultz, while the tracklist rounds out a full first outing, from “The Mirror” through “Rabbit Hole.”

For Hawk. the push toward her own spotlight isn’t just a creative pivot—it’s tied to the way she describes her past band roles.. She previously contributed bass and vocals to the post-punk outfit Customer and played in Trace Mountains and M(h)aol.. “I always wanted to just be in bands and never be the star. but relying on other people really turned into a fool’s errand. ” Hawk recalled.

That tension—between loyalty, cycles, and the urge to break out—threads into her comments on “Revolver.” “I was in a never-ending cycle of being a total sucker for someone. I’m loyal to a fault, and faulty loyalty is very cyclical, you fool yourself over and over again.”

Her direction for the video follows the same preference for warmth over polish.. “I’m a student of the 90s music video with a brunette singer-songwriter in her sunny loft.. I wanted to make a casual video that was just a warm day at home writing the song. which is how it went down in reality.” She says the beginning “pays homage to Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Learn’ video. where she begins with a handstand then takes off into her day.”

Hawk also explains how the production worked around the song’s theme.. She wanted the camera to “‘revolve. ’ so my friend Colin pulled together some gadgets and lights and we shot the whole video in my living room.” Even the circumstances around her schedule shaped the scene: she was dog-sitting her friend’s dogs Connie and Vinny at the time. and “they really stole the show.”

Chinook was tracked at Philadelphia’s Headroom Studios, and it features contributions from producer Sam Acchione (Jessica Lea Mayfield, Alex G, Grace Ives), Logan Roth (Lauryn Hill, Slaughter Beach, Dog), Craig Hendrix (Japanese Breakfast), Ava Mirzadegan, Will Butera (Joy Again), and Tree Palmedo.

The sequencing of the rollout reflects the record’s working style: “Revolver. ” alongside the already released “Felicity. ” is positioned before July 31. and the video details—shot in her living room with gadgets and lights. while she dog-sat Connie and Vinny—matches how the album’s origins are tied to a specific studio session at Philadelphia’s Headroom Studios.
