Smart home watchers got a quick but packed snapshot this week. with a security patch. new platform access. and AI features all jostling for attention in the same conversation.. In the latest Smart Home Insider podcast episode. Daniel Moneta joined the show to discuss the latest updates across Samsung SmartThings and Matter—and what it means for an industry still trying to make devices work smoothly beyond single brands.

Moneta doesn’t come at the topic from one angle.. He serves as the Chair of the Matter Marketing and Product Subgroup at the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). while also representing Samsung in product and marketing for SmartThings.. That dual role shaped the discussion. centering on how SmartThings and Matter are moving as a “unifying standard” that is intended to operate across manufacturers.

The week’s news started with a security problem involving low-cost baby cameras.. Manufacturer Meari Technology. which white labels cameras for multiple companies. was found to have a “significant security issue” that allowed a researcher to gain access to many cameras across the globe.. Although that vulnerability has since been patched, the cameras in question should be replaced.

The researcher behind the discovery. Azdoufal. also previously found the vulnerability within DJI robot vacuums. adding another layer of persistence to the concern.. From there, the episode shifted to platform expansion for Homey, which is now available on new platforms.. If someone is using Homey Cloud. Homey Pro. Homey Pro Mini. or a self-hosted Homey Server. they can now access Homey from Android TV or webOS—including within a Tesla in-car browser.. Details were described as light, but the addition of multiple living-room and dashboard-style entry points was clearly a focus.

There was also a tease about AI coming to streaming. The episode says details remain scarce, but it points to the idea that Netflix is working on its own voice assistant. The described plan is an AI voice assistant that would live inside the Netflix app and help users find new content to watch.

Matter and SmartThings weren’t the only ecosystem players in the spotlight. A late leak surfaced about Google’s next move in the living room: a new smart display that could potentially go up against Apple’s long-awaited smart home display, which is rumored to launch in the fall of 2026.

The through-line across the week is that changes are arriving from every direction at once—security fixes that still require physical replacement. Homey adding new ways to access services on Android TV and webOS. and two major consumer platforms hinted to be building assistants and displays inside their own apps and devices—while the discussion continues to orbit Matter’s goal of cross-manufacturer compatibility.
