Mabrey’s 37 and nine 3s lift Tempo past Sun

Mabrey scores – Marina Mabrey scored a career-high 37 points, matching the WNBA single-game record with nine 3-pointers, as Toronto Tempo overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to beat the Connecticut Sun 101-97 on Friday night.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Marina Mabrey didn’t just heat up. She detonated.
In a Friday night showdown at Mohegan Sun Arena, the Toronto Tempo guard poured in a career-high 37 points and tied the WNBA single-game record with nine 3-pointers, helping the expansion franchise erase a 16-point deficit after halftime to beat the Connecticut Sun 101-97.
Mabrey’s night shifted almost entirely into the fourth quarter. She scored 21 points in the final period as Tempo turned the game into a sprint they controlled down the stretch. Overall, she went 9 of 12 from 3-point range, finishing with four rebounds and four assists.
Tempo’s comeback wasn’t a one-person miracle, even if Mabrey carried the weight. Temi Fagbenle went 8-for-9 from the floor and finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. Maria Conde also had 19 points, adding six rebounds coming off the bench.
Connecticut looked in charge early, jumping ahead 50-37 at halftime. But Toronto flipped the script after the break, outscoring the Sun 64-47 in the second half to take control when it mattered.
The Sun were not short on effort, but they couldn’t stop the tide. Kennedy Burke scored 18 points off the bench for a team now staring at a brutal slide—Connecticut has lost seven in a row. Leila Lacan and Brittney Griner added 16 points apiece, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 13.
Tempo snapped a three-game skid with the win, and now the schedule moves quickly. The Tempo will visit the Atlanta Dream on Monday.
Connecticut, meanwhile, looks to rebound when it hosts the Chicago Sky on Monday.
