Lufthansa nose gear collapses at Frankfurt, staff hurt

Lufthansa nose – A Lufthansa Boeing 787 jetliner at Frankfurt Airport suffered a nose-landing-gear collapse at a gate on Thursday, June 4, injuring several employees. Passengers had not boarded, and the aircraft is expected to be moved for maintenance inspections before repair
A Lufthansa Boeing 787 sat at a gate at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday, June 4—until its front end unexpectedly dropped.
The incident unfolded while the aircraft was parked, leaving its nose landing gear to collapse after it “unexpectedly retracted,” Lufthansa said. The collapse damaged the front of the plane and sent the aircraft down to the ground.
Lufthansa said several staff members were injured and were receiving medical attention. The airline added that no passengers had boarded the jetliner, which was scheduled to depart for Los Angeles.
The moment is captured in a video that has circulated widely, showing the plane on the tarmac before the front suddenly collapses, only feet away from a ground worker.
FlightRadar24 data indicated the aircraft is expected to be moved to a maintenance hangar at the airport. Further inspections will be conducted there before the plane is repaired.
For travelers. the key detail is timing: the jet was still at the gate and had not yet taken passengers onboard when the nose gear failed. For airport operations and the airline’s ground crew. it’s a reminder that even a parked aircraft can shift from routine to emergency in seconds—especially when a mechanical issue strikes at the front of the fuselage.

So the nose just dropped while it was parked? That’s wild.
Why was it “retracted” if it was at the gate?? Sounds like someone forgot a switch or maintenance messed up. Hope the workers are okay.
I saw that video and thought the plane hit something like a curb or another vehicle, not like it retracted on its own. Also, if no passengers boarded, how come it’s “for travelers” like the article says? Sounds like bad wording. Either way Frankfurt airport seems cursed lately.
Front of the plane collapses at a gate and it’s all “unexpectedly” retracted… ok sure. Like I don’t buy the “seconds” thing, planes are supposed to have safeguards for stuff like that. I’m just glad it wasn’t while boarding because that could’ve been way worse. Lufthansa should refund everyone involved even the staff injuries, idk.
