Loyd and Carter question Las Vegas for Sparks

Jewell Loyd and Chennedy Carter are both listed as questionable for the Las Vegas Aces’ Tuesday game against the Los Angeles Sparks with leg injuries, while Kelsey Plum remains out with an ankle sprain and Dana Evans is still waiting to make her season debut a

By the time Las Vegas arrives for Tuesday’s meeting with the Los Angeles Sparks, the Aces won’t just be counting matchups—they’ll be counting bodies.

For the third game between these teams this season, both squads could be short-handed, and the injury report has become the deciding storyline before tipoff even happens. The Sparks are already without star guard Kelsey Plum as she recovers from an ankle sprain.

On the Aces side, backup guards Jewell Loyd and Chennedy Carter have popped up on the injury report as questionable. Both are listed as having a leg injury.

It’s a meaningful update for Los Angeles’ bench. because Loyd and Carter have been key pieces off the Aces’ second unit this season. Loyd did not play in the Aces’ win against the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday. Carter did suit up. but played only nine minutes before exiting during the third quarter. and she did not return to the game.

The depth chart consequence is immediate: if neither Loyd nor Carter is able to play against the Sparks. Las Vegas would likely turn to Kiersten Bell to provide minutes with the second unit. That matters even more because the Aces backcourt is already thin. Dana Evans has yet to make her season debut as she is also dealing with a leg injury. after being an impact player off the team’s bench last season.

Loyd’s season has been steady so far—she has appeared in seven games and is averaging a little over 27 minutes per game. Her numbers include 7.3 points. 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists. with shooting splits of 32.1 percent from the field. 27.5 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line.

Carter’s impact has been more explosive in limited time. She has appeared in eight games and is averaging a little over 20 minutes per game. contributing 17.5 points. 2.4 rebounds. 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals. Her shooting has been strong as well. at 65.1 percent from the field. 58.8 percent from the 3-point line and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The injury questions around Loyd, Carter and Evans land in the middle of a season routine that suddenly has no margin for error. With Plum already out for the Sparks, the Tuesday matchup is shaping up to hinge on who can stay on the floor when the second unit is asked to carry more than usual.

  1. So Plum out, and now Loyd/Carter questionable… that’s basically Sparks backup against Aces backups lol. I don’t even know who wins at that point.

  2. Wait I thought Dana Evans was the one that was already back? The article says she’s still waiting to make her debut but also talks like she was on last season’s bench so which is it. Either way, if Loyd doesn’t play I guess Kiersten Bell just takes over… right?

  3. Carter only played nine minutes and then she’s questionable, that’s wild. But Loyd didn’t play Sunday so I’m not shocked. What gets me is they’re still talking like they’ll “count matchups” when really it’s just who can survive warmups. Also those shooting percentages sound fake good for being injured??
