Lizzo didn’t scroll past the viral message.

On Sunday (June 7). the 38-year-old “Sexy Ladies” singer replied to a post shared by a user that questioned what happened to her fanbase. The user wrote: “lizzo not having a fanbase is so weird to me when this woman was literally selling out arenas not even 2 years ago. like, where did those people go?”.

Lizzo answered with a blunt timeline. “I actually can answer this: the industry changed so much in the last 3 yrs. ” she wrote. explaining that “streaming replaced radio” and that she’d been “a radio darling. ” with fans finding her music that way. She also pointed to “the very obvious & public attack on my career” as something that “changed things.”.

“But I’m out here doing my absolute best and u can’t knock a bitch for that,” she added.

In a follow-up post, Lizzo said she’d just performed “Don’t Make Me Love U” to a stadium audience the night before and received a standing ovation. She also shared the amount of streams she received on her new studio album, “Bitch,” released Friday (June 5).

The fanbase question didn’t stop at social media, either. In a new interview with USA Today, Lizzo said the album gave her the chance to reconnect with herself.

“I don’t think I have to redefine myself. I think this is about reclaiming who I am,” she shared. “A lot of my identity has been manipulated by people outside of me. so this album is me taking that back — showing the Lizzo everybody knows and loves. letting her tell her side of the story and just letting her play again.”.

She also discussed why she chose such a bold title, building on the same theme: taking the conversation back to her own terms — especially after a week where a simple “where did those people go?” post turned into a direct line to her career narrative.

  1. Sounds like she’s saying the industry changed, but also kinda blaming people for “attacks” which like… every celebrity gets attacked. I dunno, I feel like her fans still exist, they just aren’t on the radio anymore.

  2. I’m confused because the article says streaming replaced radio but also says she was a “radio darling.” So like she didn’t have fans before streaming? Also I heard her new album called “Bitch” is literally a diss track??

  3. If she got a standing ovation then that answers the question, no? That viral post was dumb. But I’m also laughing at the timeline she gave, like “it’s been 3 years” ok sure… also people gonna hate no matter what, that’s the internet. Anyway streaming numbers are probably why she’s talking like that.
