Lions rookie Kendrick Law tears ACL in practice

Detroit Lions wide receiver Kendrick Law suffered a torn ACL during a noncontact drill in offseason workouts, ruling him out for the year just weeks after being drafted in the fifth round.
The news landed fast, and it felt brutally personal for everyone around the Detroit Lions facility. Wide receiver Kendrick Law, a rookie just weeks removed from hearing his name called by the team, was ruled out for the year after suffering a torn knee ligament.
Law’s injury came during a noncontact drill in offseason workouts. He is 22 years old, and the timing could not be worse: the season before he ever got going is already over.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell brought the update to the media on Thursday. framing it in the blunt language of the NFL. “It’s part of it. Harsh reality. but he’ll get it out of the way early. have his whole career ahead of him.” Campbell added: “Hate to start with that. that’s a bit of a negative. but everybody else is doing good. Everybody else is improving.”.
Detroit drafted Law from Kentucky in the fifth round. moving up 13 places to select him at No 168 overall in late April. The team’s decision was tied to what Law showed on the field last season. He boasts a 42-inch vertical jump. and he led Kentucky in receiving yards in 2025 with 540—511 of them coming after the catch.
Law’s college production included 53 catches and three touchdowns for the Wildcats. He also returned kickoffs and punts while at Kentucky, and the Lions had been looking at him as a potential source of depth both on special teams and at wide receiver in Detroit.
His path to the Lions began at Alabama, where he started his career before transferring to Kentucky in 2025. At Alabama, he played sparingly over the previous three seasons.
When Law was drafted, the Lions’ wideout group already had established names. The depth chart at the position includes Amon-Ra St Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa—meaning Law was expected to compete for opportunities behind a core group built to win now.
For Law, though, the focus has abruptly shifted away from training camp reps and learning the playbook, and toward recovery. One offseason drill changed that trajectory in an instant, leaving the rookie season he was chasing on hold—before it truly began.
